John , there wasn't really any change within the circuit with the resistor going before or after the first cap .my question was more of why is the consumption happening so far ahead of where the circuit actually working ?

well that do make a difference ! but the two circuits are still the same ... 1st pic is with resistor after the cap ...

posting now is painfully slow !!!

OK the watts dissipated graph is showing S1, you need to show R1.

Here's are few graphs of Neis x-o. It's interesting how the resistance changed but not as expected. I think this is due to the driver impedance and the x-o...

That's not what I'm referring to, John. I'm saying the wattage dissipation should be exactly the same if you flip the capacitor and pre-series resistor's positions. This means both will be before the shunt coil.

What I'm getting at, is that the HP limits power going through the series resistor, from whichever position it is in, even when placed before the first series cap, to where the rolloff of the filter will not allow the resistor to have to pass much power. Even out in front, my resistors do not get hotter than when placed after, and this is due to the highpass and how the AC circuit works.

For example, I have a 9.1 ohm 10W resistor in front of a 3rd order filter, consisting of a 20uF/0.95mH/6.8uF, and it's never gotten warm, even when pushing the LED's to about -15dB on the level indicator.

Frankly, I really don't think the power meter is a good indication of what really happens with music.

i'm not sure about all this and got to think Ben is right . here are a few different pics . like i have it before X , then after in an L-pad and also the FR and Z when its in the L-pad .

Yes I agree with the resistor on either side of the cap is the same watts dissipated. My original note was a warning that pre- x-o vs. post x-o resistors can consume large amounts of power. While it doesn't appear to be the case here it was a fun discussion. I will continue to check watts dissipated to see if I need to bump up the power rating of my resistors.

if i didn't know better i'd say the Speaker Gods are conspiring against this build !!! first the 160"s are outta stock , then it was just hot to go out and work and now with the 160's back and the brutal heat backed off a bit i get really excited to get these box's together this weekend only to wake up yesterday to a monsoon ! we're to get 15-19 inches of rain between saturday and tuesday .... so i'm stuck inside . figure i'd put an ext, port in my surrounds pull them out in the middle of the room and get some measurements . i can find nothing that fits inside that 3" cutout ... i have 3" core tubes that my window film comes on but they are the exact same same size and just won't fit .

how important to my measurements is the port gonna be ? i've already designed the XO for the 2 way in small sealed cab but measurements were taken using the floor as a boundary as they are designed to go on wall , i was just wanting to get them out in the middle of the room with no boundary effects ....

parts are ordered and as Jbunner has told me there is nothing left but a little git-r-done !!! i have made some considerations , been following this thread http://techtalk.parts-express.com/fo...iver-important and gonna do an A-B the a stack of 10uF poly buyouts and a 68uF npe ... for me being a noob its about learning , so i'll measure and listen and report back .

took Johns advice and went for 3/4" stuff , loosing an inch did throw my box dimensions outta whack . working on new cut sheet now ,hoping to have box's together tomorrow and the 2way baffle cut Sunday ...

Assuming its rotated 90 degrees, no. Horizontal will have some off axis issues unless you stack the mid and tweeter like Wolf.

Worse part would be remembering to make a left and right hand versions. That’s a terminal cup playing the part of the famous maker DS115 right?

what exactly you mean rotated 90 degrees ?

yes , terminal cup filling for DS90 ... the 90 is overall 3.64" , the terminal cup 4 , so i'll have a little there .... i'm gonna have to increase the height to 16.5 , no biggie just makes it a lil taller ... left/right is no problem , all my builds are that way , wasn't really the plan for these but i can still center the 2 way ...

i see what you mean about 90 , yes i am standing on the side ... though this would work with no changes ....
