Sometimes I need some very small screws, about the size used to mount the sa25 Dayton sub amp. They're really tiny. Any idea were to source them and what size they may be?
Screws or machine screws? McMaster has many machine screws. 4/40 is easy enough to find. As far as wood screws, getting small brass screws and blackening them is probably best bet. Other wise http://www.leevalley.com/US/Hardware...34&cat=3,41306 and some brass blackener.
Ace has them. A bit pricey but, if you only need a few you'll save the cash in time sourcing and shipping. Also check around town for a bolt supply. Prices will much better there.

The small black screws are right next to the large black screws. LOL
Whenever I get the chance, I salvage all the screws and other usable hardware and components from dead or throw away electronics and loudspeakers. Nice to have just the exact type of screw you are looking for. If you are unable to find what you are looking for in black, you can dip it in some Gun Blue and that will turn it black.
Thanks guys for the suggestions, I checked them all out.
And I Never thought of checking an auto parts store, good idear!
.
I was looking for screws for wood/mdf, not really machine threads.
So it looks like the screws I want are probably #4's. PE has the allen head screws in 3mm size, which I have in black and silver finishes. They will work for most of my needs, but I wanted a phillips head instead for a few things.
Looks like #4's are just a tiny bit smaller even, which is good and McMaster has them in black.
I found #4's and I'm even going to pick up a few #2's, both in black from McMaster.
Just what I needed.
Thanks John for the offer. I like to have various boxes of different screws and sizes so I never have to hit the store when I need something. I actually have several clear bins of all of PE's screw sizes for when I may need them. My basement looks a bit like a hardware store/branch of Parts Express at times, but I hate not having what I need at the moment.
I ended up purchasing two sizes and I wanted to throw up a pic here to show the sizes compared to the PE ones that we're used to for future reference:
Left to Right:
PE's Black Oxide #6 x 3/4"
PE's Shiny Black Cap Head #M3 x 16
McMaster Shiny black #4 x 3/4"
McMaster Shiny Black #2 x 1/2"
Haven't used the new ones yet, but I did try to get a few different sized phillips screwdrivers in both the #4 and #2, and they both had good engagement. Predrill a shaft-sized hole and I bet they're golden.
Thanks again for the help locating these. Maybe PE will pick up at least the #4 size at some point, It's what I'd use to mount many of the sub-2" drivers PE sells. The #2 is pretty tiny and wouldn't be nearly as useful volume-wise.
