  • Omnimic runtime error

Tried doing some measurements today for the first time since "upgrading" from windows 7 to 10.

My omnimic v2 used to work just fine. Now I keep getting runtime error 217 every time I try to open it.

I googled this error and tried the common fix of disabling some things in msconfig with no luck. I uninstalled and reinstalled omnimic and no luck. It talked about a virus possibly causing this so I ran a scan and found no issues. I also ran ccleaner on the registry and nothing. I'm out of options that I know of and bummed I can't measure. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated, thanks

I called in to PE when I needed help on my OM. Might want to call them.

Same problem here on my desktop (laptop with win 10 works but that one never goes online or gets updated). I tried compatibility mode and msconfig but neither worked. Could possibly have to do with windows firewall?

Hmm, I never turned off the firewall. I tried about everything else I could find on wikis, forums, and YouTube.

I thought about calling PE to see if others have called with this issue prompting them having the software designer find a fix. OM is the only program I've found so far that has this issue.

Try uninstalling the software and reinstalling directly from the Dayton Audio website. This has been successful in the past when getting the 217 error on Windows 10.
          Your results may vary.

Thanks Matt, but still no go. I still get a 217. The at location is a different number. Any other recommendations?

I also played with turning the firewall on and off. Issues like this can be so frustrating..

I got the 217 error, only had been successfully using omnimic on WIndows 10 (with compatibility mode set to XP sp3) for over a year. Windows updated today, and now the runtime error appeared for the first time.

Make sure the update didn't alter the compatibility mode. Runtime errors are often the result of old programs run on new OS, with compatibility mode being the usual fix.

How do I change the compatibility mode and what do I set it to?

Right click on the program shortcut on your desktop, left click on 'Properties', left click on Compatibility.

Once I went there I remember trying it before during troubleshooting. I tried it again and no go. Same error when I make changes and when I click the test for compatibility, it immediately pops up the runtime error. This is so frustrating and OM is the only program I have this problem with, nothing else on the computer has runtime errors. I appreciate the the suggestions but think I am about out of luck.

It worked. I downloaded the x64 version of the anniversary update and restarted and still no go. I uninstalled Omnimic and ran CCleaner. I restarted and went to the Dayton website and redownloaded the latest version and reinstalled it, and restarted again. And it opened! Thank you and everybody who gave suggestions!
