  • RS28a discontinued?? WTF?!

Dayton Audio RS28A-4 1-1/8" Aluminum Dome TweeterThe Dayton Audio RS28A-4 Reference Series tweeter is designed to be an excellent match for the Dayton Audio Reference Series woofers. The tweeter's unique black anodized 1-1/8" aluminum diaphragm and state-of-the-art motor system not only matches the look and features of the RS woofers, but also matches the clean, detailed, and uncolored sound. A cast aluminum faceplate, protective mesh grill, tuned rear chamber, and several distortion-reducing paths in the motor system are just a few of the features that allow this tweeter to outperform many expensive audiophile high-frequency transducers.

I hope something else is in the pipeline....

That behemoth of a tweeter is really hard fall. Uncountable designs used this driver.
Wow, and now I'm def glad I have my 2 pair!

Looks like the silk version is still available for the time being.

Maybe a minor change/improvement is in the pipeline.... similar to what they did with the Esoteric woofers with the damping material added under the dustcap? I think there have been changes to it already... ferrofluid/no ferrofluid? My memory is dusty, though.

I can't imagine they're just going away all together. It's been how many years since it's introduction? 2005? That's about 12 years or so. Not as long as the 'silkie' but pretty long nonetheless.

Hopefully Brian can clue us in to what's going on at the MWAF.

There will always be something newer and better as long as they are in business. Just like cars, it's an evolutionary process.
Personally, I loved the silkies I used in a few designs.

Please say it isn't so! I have been trying to build the Cantilanas forever but I purchased everything but the tweeters . The RS28A was supposed to be a drop in replacement for the XT19 and much prettier with the RS52.

Edit: What puzzles me is that Dayton is Partsexpress's house brand and they just released a speaker kit with the RS28a. It must be a site typo even though Solen and Meniscus are out of the Dayton RS28A as well.,,,,,

Wonder how this one compares!? Maybe won't reach quite as low?

Peerless DA25BG08-06 1" Aluminum Dome Tweeter 6 OhmDelivering high performance at an amazing value, the Peerless DA25BG08-06 is a wonderful choice for high efficiency 2 or 3-way speaker designs. Thanks to the damped 1" aluminum dome and large rubber surround Peerless has managed to drive any dome resonances well outside of the audible frequency range. Also, by using a damped rear chamber the Fs was driven down to 721 Hz for crossover points as low as 1,500 Hz making this tweeter suitable for use in a 2-way with woofers as large as 8". Finally, thanks to Ferrofluid cooling and large ferrite motors helping to wick away heat, power handling is 100 watts RMS giving the DA25BG08-06 extremely high output capabilities.

Both versions (silk and aluminum) are gone but there is some stock left on the RS28F's, 134 pieces. If you need em, better grab em up, once they're gone, they're gone. They are working on replacements with some upgrades but it will be several months or longer according to my source.

I've got one of the RS28A's, bought it to build a center channel speaker a while back. Planned on picking up more of the A's at the tent sale but that's not happening now. If anyone is interested in the one I have, PM me.

Kevin, do you happen to know if they will be improved or replaced? Not sure what your replaced definition is.

                            - If they are replaced I assume the esoteric tweeter or a brand new value tweeter in the rs28a price range.
                            - Improved like how the esoteric woofers have been, I would assume the RS28A with an improved dome that does not dip at 15-17khz. Based on the fact that this may include the fabric version this seems unlikely.
