Is this the tall three way for Scott Quick?
    Yep- that's Scott Quick.

If Scott McMeans has a screen name, It eludes me at the moment.

Don played them for a little while Saturday evening after mine. I believe he was playing them with the Ultimax subs you see up front in a lot of the pics. I'm probably not the best guy to get opinions from on these since I'm biased towards CBT arrays now. Your user profile doesn't show a location, where do you live Alex?

Got back Monday night and just getting my wits about me! Definitely another great year and thanks for PE for putting it on!

The bigger room was much less "man musky" than last year with double the breathing room, but people were much farther from the speakers and I feel like the middle of the room had a very big bass boost in it (no preventing that obv).

The volume setting was an issue and some speakers played much louder than others, and consequently usually the louder speakers sounded better assuming they didn't give up the bass ghost. I'd be tempted to try near field on axis full range pink noise to set volumes which greatly reduces room interactions.

Hauling my 80lb (135 crated) Strafi around Indiana and Ohio was quite the chore, but well worth it. They made it w/o a scratch but the shipping containers took a beating, thanks to friend Julian Franke for letting me repair and reinforce them at his house, that was a life saver!

Got a lot of great feedback on the Strafi, but alas I didn't place in the very competitive over $200 class, every speaker sounded amazing! Paul K's Briosos took the cake and very much deserved the win. You go to these events for the speakers, but it's always the people that make it truly special!

Brian always an audio adventure traveling with you, Ben, Tom, Nick, Paul, Rory, Steve, Perry, Kevin K, Kole, Chris, Ani, Craig K, Matt P, Ben, Keith, John H and so many others made this an awesome trip, it's been so good getting to know you guys over the past year or two!

            Some pics from the event

It was lonely representing pro driver speaker builds, but it's a burden I'm willing to shoulder =)

And a big surprise was the after party, I apologize if you didn't hear about this as it was last minute, I booked a conference room at our hotel and on account of it being a rowdy Saturday night and a very well insulated room, we got to crank speakers till 2am!

Was a real treat to spend so much time with so many good speakers as the competition barely gives you a glimpse.

I got to give the Strafi a vigorous demo to about 20 people despite them only being run off my Adcom GFA-535 and the headphone output in my laptop, but they still easily hit 100db with a fraction of the power they're capable of. Got to spend a lot of quality time with Kevin's Gandolfs, Craig K brought some really nice Focal MTM, Kerry's boom sticks and Standard, Rory's green GRS towers, Steve's ex Theil towers that got 2nd place, Perry's CBT's and some others...

I'll definitely be doing that again next year, thanks to all those who made it out! This community of DIY speaker builders continue to inspire, challenge and reward me with incredible experiences, I can't wait till the next one, and look for lots more builds from me =)

On Sunday I spent they day with a well known speaker friend, among some very cool stuff he has was this ATC mid that we may collaborate on in a future build, what a monster!

            Thanks!

You're just a "hop, skip, and jump" away. If you ever wish to make that 4 hour drive/ride, let me know, would be glad to demo my arrays.

Did Jeff pick that up from the guy that scored the "Motherload" of stuff last year, can't remember his name. He came across the deal of a lifetime if you're a speaker freak. Hundreds of high quality drivers for pennies on the dollar.

                    • Javad, I sincerely appreciate your compliments and congrats. I was honestly sweating both your Strafi and Jim Holtz's Bordeaux speakers and was surprised they didn't show up in the top three. After announcing the 3rd and 2nd place winners in the over-$200 category, I thought, "oh, oh", but obviously was thrilled to have won once again. Now I have to again acknowledge Dan Neubecker's crossover design for my Brioso. As I stated when I talked about this build before they were judged, Dan said it was the easiest crossover to design he's ever experienced, and it's simple, having only 6 elements, 3 cap, 2 inductors and 1 resistor. I've already thanked PE privately but I did like the much larger room; however, I don't think the way the SPL was set up was entirely appropriate. Still PE is keeping an open mind and experimenting to continue to improve this event.

Javad I really enjoyed the informal get together. lots of good speakers and music. next year I will have the source covered, I am giving myself a very nice integrated stereo for Xmas. so just bring your laptop and we will be good to go. I am also still amazed at the quality of your cab. easily in the top 5 best of all times I have seen at a DIY event. hope we can do this every year.

the ATC drivers did not come from Dan's find.
