  • Anarchy/Wavecor MTM

Yesterday a package arrived at my front door from Erich. Took some measurements and modeled up a crossover. Kludged together a crossover using some random parts to get it close while I wait for the real parts to arrive. I just had to see what a pair of Anarchy woofers would do. Running mono at the moment. This is going to be a killer MTM with massive output potential.

    Stay tuned

Sweet! have 4- anarchy on the shelf and been wanting to try the wavecor tweeter.

Looks like you are crossing at less than 1500 and that it is a small waveguide. Which tweeter is that? Looking good!

TW030WA11. 1300Hz is the crossover point and both the woofer and tweeter distortion levels are around -50dB there. Both drivers are pretty darn nice performers based on the measurement data.

Erich will be offering it as a kit as soon as I'm done with the XO. A TM will follow.

How do you like that tweeter? I purchased a pair a while back after seeing the exceptional test bench results at Audioxpress, eventually I have plans to pair it with Dayton PM220.

Its good to see you building something here again Pete . I was thinking it was about time for something new over at DIYSoundGroup .

It's got a nice, smooth response for sure. Fairly easy to work with because of it. And because it can cross low, it might even work well with 8" woofers.

Erich reached out to me after the RS28A became NLA, and because the SEOS8 was pretty much designed for the RS28, it made the Marksman kit pretty much a bust. So he let me know about his inventory of Anarchy woofers and we came up with the idea to use them with this tweeter. So far so good! I've only got the one MTM at the moment but he's going to send another set and I'll get them both going. I definitely have high hopes for this design. Even in mono, the sound is very dynamic and clean. Nice components.

I was initially hoping for a design using two Anarchy's and a Dayton RS28 in the SEOS-8 waveguide. A bummer about that tweeter going away because it knocked out quite a few designs. So Pete thought the 30mm Wavecor could handle the low crossover point and my understanding is that it does it well. I can't wait to build a pair of these myself when he's done with the crossover.

I am very interested in your opinion of the tweeter. I helped Mattskate build a 2 way using this tweeter and a wavecore woofer. We could never get the tweeter to sound correct. There was an unnatural roughness to male and female voices. Let me know your thoughts on the sound quality please.

Any insight into the differences between the different model numbers for that tweeter? E.g. TW030WA(01)(02)(05)(09)(13) etc?

Listening to one speaker at the moment doesn't give me the full sense of staging and imaging, but I'm not really hearing any "roughness" so far.

What recordings gave you that impression? Where were you crossing the tweeter and to which woofer? Are you sure it was the tweeter and not the woofer? Just curious about the scenario you were using.

I've been thinking about a Anarchy/SEOS-8 design for a long time. But since I'm not in the US the import costs is just too much at the moment. :(

Here's a shot of the Anarchy vs the Marksman response and distortion profiles. I sure hope that Dayton can get a replacement for the RS28A. What a phenomenal bargain that tweeter was. And the 8BG51 is a truly excellent 8" woofer.

The Anarchy crossover isn't quite optimized yet but it sure is close.
