Understood! I've got both up and running now with a tweaked crossover. Gonna listen like this for a while. Maybe I'll pull things together and head your way this weekend. What day looks good for you?

Well, I've got them buttoned up and ready to travel to Iowa. No finish yet but at least they're sealed. Just need a fine sanding and then either paint or veneer, not sure which yet. They're slated to go in the TV room. "Mrs Obsessed & Proud of It" is looking forward to them.

I took a pair of sweeps today, left and right overlay. Good match up. (I can't wait to get my room fixed up with proper treatments.) I really like how they turned out. They have prodigious output capacity and really shine with big orchestral stuff.

Looking forward to the feedback from the gang at Iowa.

Finally got a finish on them. Gotta fix up a couple little spots in the recesses to black them out, but overall, really happy with the look. Most importantly, the wife is happy.

They've been up in the TV room now for a while. We've seen a bunch of movies with some serious "effects" employed. I'll sum up with "who needs subs?"

            Loving it!

Erich has "Apollo" listed on the website now. I think he's going to have the site updated with pricing and such pretty soon. These are the first speakers I've built in a while that will allow do-dads to be put on top without sliding off.

I got a chuckle out of that, looks like another design criteria...

Hi Pete, how does the Anarchy mtm compare to your B&C 8" with waveguide (dynamics, output, separation of instruments, etc.)? Thanks.

Good question, I really liked the detail of the B&C...

Well, since I don't have the B&C anymore (daughter's boyfriend bought them) I'm going purely off memory. Apollo is quite articulate. Earlier in the thread there was some doubt about the sound from the Wavecor tweeter but I'm not the least bit disappointed in what it does. I'd have to give Apollo the edge in terms of bass extension, but otherwise it's a toss up. I tinkered with the crossover for quite a while until I got the sound that made me happy with the broadest array of music. There's plenty of detail retrieval on hand and complex passages never seem to get congested or muddled. With 120W @ 8 Ohm behind them, I don't think I ever heard any strain set in. On paper, the B&C/RS28A combo wins the distortion race, but both are well below .5% over most of the band.

Between the two, I'd have to flip a coin over which I like better.

The Apollo is available now. Design is complete. Erich's just updating the website and it should launch in the next couple days.
Ares is on hold for a bit while the next shipment of the Peerless tweeters makes its way here. Once the site is up, I'd wager the 6" Anarchy will also be listed.
I've been really enjoying the Ares. I keep thinking they'd make amazing computer speakers with the little Lepai amp driving them.

Solidly executed design, Pete. Well done! I hope I get a chance to hear a set, sometime. I suspect Erich's biggest problem will be keeping them in stock.

I couldn't agree more on your "who needs subs?" comment when the 7" Anarchy is employed. Not too long ago, I repaired a set of monitors that originally employed no longer available CSS SDX7 woofers. I had run out of SDX7 spares and the Anarchy appeared to be a workable replacement. (It was an active system with DSP, so no physical crossover rework issues were involved.) The MTM form factor is not unlike the Apollo design. (The ribbon was a mistake for the intended market, but that is another story.) Outer diameter was a bit larger than the SDX7, so it was necessary to surface mount instead of flush mount like the originals.

My opinion is that the Anarchy is a much better driver than the SDX7. The first response from the owner (an accomplished recording engineer) after he received them and had listened awhile was "Do you know anybody who wants to buy a subwoofer? I think they are quite a bargain at the price at which they are being sold. I know I will have them high on my go-to list if/when an appropriate project comes around.

Before, with original SDX7 drivers. (Not the exact one, but you know what I mean...)

Woofers replaced with 7" Anarchy drivers.

                              Boundary measurement of LF.

Boundary measurement 200 Hz - 20 kHz. (The drooping response at left of chart was a goof in setting measurement resolution.)
