P.S. I would also vote TMW/W if that were an option. My domestic partner is highly opposed to any design that doesn't put the tweeter on top, for reasons of visual balance.

P.P.S. "The Carl Weathers Reporters" would be even better, albeit not as snappy.

        Sorry guys. I added TMWW.

TMW? FINE!!!! Although you rarely see tower speakers with this configuration... bookshelf, yes.

        Keep the votes coming!

Voted for TMWW, especially if the M and W are of similar efficiency or the M a bit more. But this just manages to fit in T a 4/5 inch mid and dual 7 or 8 and still have a 10 x 40 baffle

Does a MTMWW really buy that much more than a TMWW (assuming good design for both)?

For my next build for myself, it is likely to be a TMW with a sub, though I might get ambitious and do some sort of CBT.

It buys you efficiency and allows you to use midwoofers rather than midranges which are becoming rare.

I voted run. This was for practical purposes. My current spaces limit what will work. While a tmww or wwmtmww would be great fun to look at, it simply would not be getting its full justice in those locations. A smaller cabinet, about 40-42" high, 8-9" wide works very well though. And I have multiple subs available should I need one, though that is rarely the case.

My speakers are only MTMW, not MTMWW. I feel...inadequate.

If it’s going to be a floorstander, it may as well dig. So for me most TM only alignments are out the window, will need a W in there somewhere.

I’ve built a wmtmw which I feel is fantastic, and ported would definitely do it all. Sealed it digs quite well. I’ve always been intrigued by the tmww alignment aesthetically. And I’m a sucker for overkill, so whoever mentioned wwmtmww, I’m there.

And let the w’s be 10”+.

Plus, I’m a sucker for headroom. Full believer in its benefits.
                    Builds - C-Killa - Speedsters - LithMTM - Talking Sticks - Pocket Rockets - Khanspires - Dayton RS Center - RS225/28A - Kairos - Adelphos - SEOS TD12X - Dayton 8 - Needles - 871S - eD6c - Overnight Sensations - Tritrix (ported) - Lineup F4 - Stentorians - The Cheapies - Tub Thumpers - Barbells - Tuba HT - Numerous subwoofers - probably missing a few...... :p

                      Joey -

Periodically (once or twice a year) there are closeout sales on 6 inch mid-woofers for $15 or even $20
I am SO happy with my "radickal towers" using $6 Peerless 6 inchers.
Lots and lots of headroom, and they dig a lot lower than the model would predict.
So keep your eyes and ears open for those sales...

If you're gonna have a big cab, might as well have it full of speakers. Currently have 2.5 Schumakubins, I guess is a MTMWW, though it has 4 DA175s.

Zaph did several designs with his woofer, he discusses the various arrangements in a page off his website, affiliated with that other speaker source in Wisconsin's capitol city.

Hmmm? Assuming I'm correctly interpreting a TMW as having the tweeter at the top, almost all of the speakers I've built have been 3-way towers with that very configuration, some with 6-1/2" or 7" woofers and some with 8" woofers.

Is this a posted design? Would love to see it. I’m always a little upset I didn’t build the stentorians....

                            Thanks for the tip!

I would have voted TMWW before, but it wasn't available.
