Bottom line: get one that uses an external microphone. The iMM-6 from PE is a good way to go.

I'm not looking for excellent accuracy, just something that's reliable in repeated measurements. +/-2dBA accuracy is fine for this particular need.

Both of those links are refenced in this article about how to measure obnoxious noise from your neighbors: http://www.audiodevelopers.com/minne...measure-noise/
The background for that article is that Maryland has a noise law (like most states), but it is up to the county governments to enforce the law. However, Garrett County, where we have our cabin, doesn't enforce the law. As a result, you either need to sue your neighbors or else sue the County (writ of Mandamus). We did the first option, but we really should have done the second.Free Passive Speaker Designer Lite (PSD-Lite) -- http://www.audiodevelopers.com/Softw...Lite/setup.exe

That's unfortunate; Makes me glad my neighbours are a half mile away.

This technology is great these days. Back when I needed a SPL meter had to buy one at the shack. It has A & C weighted scales.
C weighted is full range. A weighted displays higher frequencies that can harm your hearing long term. Still works great after 20
years. Also has an analogue meter which is nice. Spl meters start at around $13. Accuracy 1.5 DB.

SPL Meter is built by the same team that created the other great professional audio and acoustics apps on the store, Studio Six Digital. Built on the engine of our more expensive "SPL" app, SPL Meter's filters and decay rates meet or exceed ANSI type 1. This app is not a toy or a game.
*** FEATURES:
FILTERS -- A and C weighting filters are provided.
DECAY -- Choose ANSI Fast or Slow.
RANGES -- 40dB to 120dB in 9 ranges.

Yeah, the SPL Meter App for Android device is one of my favorite, You can download it from Google Play Store. The best feature is Calibrate option – If you have a calibrated SPL meter or known loudness source, you can use this option to calibrate the meter. (However its still for Indication Only).
