CNC Spindle and Stepper Drive upgrade.

I need to get a spindle next. Then maybe extend to a 4x8 machine.

jcsmith, i would do more research you really want something that isnt directly belt driven. Its less hassle, reliable and maintenance. On the budget side I like the open builds kits with leadscrews. "Budget" in terms of a cnc is $1400-$2000 for a small 24"x24" size. Or 12x36 or 24x36. Their new machine is called the Lead1010 look it up.

i started a thread on the midwest audio club forum called cnc talk you might want to check out.

i have a cncrouterparts kit as well and it was very easy to assemble and setup. The price is 4-7 times that factor so i understand not wanting to go that far . I think openbuilds.com is the best machine for the money, maybe the millright. As far as a package goes i think it will be better than an xcarve or shapeoko.

My bad, I have a tiny bit of ADD, my CNC was salvaged from a scrap yard, so I know very little
about the "tables" myself, that said, I have replaced everything on mine at least twice so I can offer some
help when it comes to making the table to end up with move.

Although slightly off topic, I see you post often with what seems to be pretty revolutionary ideas and thoughts. I’m toying with the idea of getting a CNC router. Mostly wood, some aluminum if it’s up for it. Probably just signs, monograms, inlays, and baffles, etc. I’d say a 36”^2 working area would “probably” handle what I would want to do. Do you have any recommendations for diving into the world of cnc machines? One I was looking at is the Shapeoko XXL.

I've been using CNCrouterparts machine as a commercial tool for a few years now. I can highly recommend them.

Nothing I talk about is revolutionary, it's really more old fashioned! Just don't use the word textbook around here
and you will be alright. I read a lot of stuff like this and try to apply the research to my work. My younger brother
has a PHD in mathematics so I bounce the hard stuff off of him, I was blessed with a grade 9 education and
street smarts. I also work on speaker design all day almost everyday and I have for years for a living,
so I get a lot of hands on, real world experience.

I recently upgraded my CNC with a "MySweety" 1500w air cooled spindle motor/drive
and Gekodrive stepper motor controller. They both work great and the Geko drive
was a breeze to set up (no port/pin hell). The spindle system came with a bunch of
cool stuff including about 3ft of brush strip, to make a dust collector. I had been meaning
to make a new one but I had no idea what that stuff was called. Highly Recommended!
