So I had been taking a bit of a risk by assembling and testing only 1 of the speakers for crossover development. Today was the day to put the other one together and see if something was amiss.

Luckily, all is good. The R speaker was put together and driven with the same crossover test parts. It actually measures flatter than the L by just a tick.

I soldered leads to both sets of drivers in prep for the final crossover assembly this week. Now it's just waiting for my alternate full baffle step parts to arrive and test, then I should have about a week to listen to these things as a pair before InDIYana.

Hmmm... I just glued uncut baffles on. You're doing better than me! =)

I hope to be cutting holes later on this evening...

Not always. If you knew what I've been through in the last 2 months in terms of 'life', you might understand. FWIW, I knocked out the cabs in about 6 hours total. I've known the size and volumes and such for months, just have been unable to do the work. I only have to flush/round and cut holes in the baffles, as well as wire posts, and I'm ready for measurements. I have a large stockpile of parts, and drivers are on-hand. I likely won't have them finished for looks by then, but they will attend. If I hadn't done these, I would have nothing to bring, so I had to hurry...

Didn't mean to poke at a bad couple months.... but looking forward to hearing what you're cooking, even if it's naked!

Got the parts for the more baffle step version today and had 15 minutes to clip in place and measure. The baffle step change is right, but I got some underdamped chebyshev filter sloping going on that exacerbated the midrange peak at 4k.

I was trying to be cheap and make the same tweeter inductor work... bad idea. It has ended up measuring worse than the sim with the 4k peak staying put while everything else dropped 3dB.

Now I gotta buy more inductors. This is where I need access to Wolf's parts bin ;)

And- I can wind my own coils if I need to. That helps a lot!

Without totally derailing Wogg's build log - I would love to learn more about your coil winding ability! I'll pick your brain at InDIYana on that if you don't have something handy to share here.

Replacement inductors in hand and tested. Looks good, the 4k lump is gone while holding the baffle step down. The key is to look at the 300Hz level, that should end up in the middle of the range for this system to end up flat as a whole.

Now I got to figure out where this lands in the cabinet and put together the peg board versions.

                        LOL!

I opted for split boards on the baffle.

Speakers complete! Now I just need to do some light sanding and apply some danish oil to freshen up the old walnut. Meanwhile... here's the results:

The scale is zoomed in from default, overall within +-3dB with the narrow dip at 5.5k keeping it from being tighter than that. The biggest diference betwee L and R is in the tweeter range, where they deviate just under 2 dB from each other at 10k.

Nice. I like how you mounted all parts to your removable baffle, making for a nice, neat package that can easily be removed for future repairs or modifications. Cool.

                                The measurements look great.
