Love this veneer. Almost a holographic effect. Holding a piece of the original dry veneer, it’s hard to believe that it transformed into this beauty

and my latest project is an enclosure made entirely of Padauk hardwood. Just such a beautiful piece of wood.

flush trimmed the port and then put on a round over

I’m just a newbie woodworker but I’m really enjoying it

Beautiful wood, but sharp edges on the baffle? Great for looks. bad for sound.

Zero sharp edges. All edges of the box have been rounded over!

the grain of the Padauk perhaps makes it look like sharp edges

I see that in the strait grain box, I was looking at the second picture in the first post that looks sharp.

Got it. You’re right. Those are the Helix Dome speakers designed by Jeff Bagby. Bought the whole kit from DIYSG and it came with all straight edges. I figure that Jeff designed it as such so I left it as is.

I've been over to my local wood "pusher" and seen his "junkie" stuff too! $400-ish for a 3x5 sheet of thick veneer, but ooooo it's soooo purty! Stuff I cain't pro-nounce-i-ate, much less spell, but makes me wanna build summore speakers just cause it's there!

The padauk is 1/2” solid and oh so pretty. But yes it was a pretty penny! But I figure that with so many hours of labor into these, I want them to be as pretty as possible.

Great looking work. What kind of veneer and how did you finish it to get that great look?

              It is pommele sapele veneer.

Aquacoat grain filler, then Arm R Seal x many coats. Sanding lightly with 600 grit and 0000 steel wool between coats.
          Working...
