You certainly can but the sound stage and imaging still suffer.

That's not been my experience. I've done it on 3 builds now, and all 3 did VERY well at both.

Mine either. Current v1 of these running in my system at the moment - you can move 10-15 degrees off center horizontally without any real material degradation to the soundstage and even standing up still results in a strong stereo image - so I'm not too concerned.

I'll be taking all the measurements shortly to work on the crossover and of course off-axis performance is a key consideration - but again - I'd be surprised if 5 degrees up in this configuration is distinguishable from on-axis. If it is, we'll either listen to them on bean bags or add a small stand!

Time for another update on these. I've been distracted building the little monitors for my neighbor - but had also been waiting a looooong time for a few things to arrive in the post to keep going with this build.

First up, changed direction on the rear terminal treatments for these. Originally I was just going to place a gloss black panel here with some gold terminals mounted but after trying that out I wasn't in love with the look and decided to change direction.

Instead I'm running with a leather wrapped inset panel....

With some nice flush mounted black alen key bolts to hold it in place...

and then, naturally, we line the compartment with red felt.

...finally the insert panel will actually hold a thick piece of Perspex (the item thats taken forever to get delivered) to provide a see through window into the crossover. The gold terminals will be mounted to the perspex. Just need to cut and place the Perspex this weekend and mount the terminals.

IMO - I think this will look much cooler than just a gloss black lid

and finally those solid timber side panels. Clear coats, cut and polish all done - time to glue in place.

Thank you all for your very generous comments. I'm glad so many like the look. I wasn't sure what people would think of it as it's a little unusual.
