4thtry, thanks for the work and effort to put those together. I'm not sure how many others might be doing the same, but I'm just playing along at home and it would certainly help me in trying to evaluate the different xo's if I knew how they were ranked during the event. I'd be interested in getting a look at the winning one too if that's not too much to ask.

There were 11 xovers in the competition, numbered as follows:

#1 dcibel
#2 EQ
#3 John H
#4 4thtry (me)
#5 Nick (ugly woofer)
#6 billet
#7 Wolf
#8 Wogg
#9 Jack
#10 Ken
#11 Chuck

The competition was conducted in 4 rounds. Crossovers #1, 2, and 3 competed in the first round. Number 2, EQ, won the first round by a show of hands. Crossovers #4, 5, 6, and 7 then competed in the 2nd round. Number 7, Wolf, won the 2nd round. Crossovers #8, 9, 10, and 11 then competed in the 3rd round. Number 9, Jack, won the 3rd round.

These 3 winners then went head to head in the final round. Number 2, EQ, was the overall winner by a final show of hands. I do not remember the exact numbers, but many of the above votes were fairly close, evenly split type decisions. Perhaps someone else in attendance took down the exact counts. Sadly, I do not have schematics for #2 or #9.

Chuck was counting hands, and said I had more votes than Jack's in the final round. By how many or anything more than that, I don't know.
That places the top three as EQ, then mine, then Jack's.

Lout- What I'm seeing in yours by comparison to most of the others, is that you have:
- a higher xover point. Most were between 1.7-2.2kHz.
- An emphasis between 400-1.5kHz in the woofer response. The peak before rolloff in the transfer function is slightly to blame here.
- the rise above 10kz is considerably higher in output over some others. Most of the entries tapered that down a smidge.
- John and I killed the breakup, whereas most others treated minimally.

However, your directivity and power response both are very good.

I'd say you have a handle on the process for sure, but maybe spectrally don't know which way to move as well.

Guess I'll follow suit and post my efforts but it's in XSim still not VituixCAD. Getting further into VituixCAD than the diffraction module is still on my to do list.

I'm actually surprised that none of the xo's posted so far tried what I might call Troels' typical 2-way approach - go easier on the woofer inductor to avoid the suckout from about 200-700Hz and then use a notch filter on the midrange peaking. Of the few versions I tried, this one gave me the flattest response. Not sure what's it's doing off-axis of course. Like LOUT, I also didn't worry about the rising response above about 9kHz as it's so common place with many popular SB tweeters and it's not going to be too big of a deal for a whole lot of us older folks' hearing anyways.

Mobius, If you would like, I could add your xover as one of the variant tabs in the VituixCAD model. I am also entering other crossovers, so this would be no problem. Then you could see how your personal spinorama 6 pack compares to all the other xovers using the same basic model.

I have to say that I am extremely humbled by this award. Not something I could have ever imagined. When Mark called out Ben's name, I wasn't shocked and thought, "Absolutely! Right call." Ben has dedicated himself to his craft and encouraging/educating the DIY community at large. I did not, could not expect that I would also be honored. Still just blown away by this this.

I was talking with Chuck the other evening about just this thing. While he's maybe not done it as long in these current DIY circles as I have, he has been into car audio longer than I was and before I started in it. He has the knowledge that a lot of that industry is clouded with the wrong information, and a lot that is legitimately false. He has always striven for accuracy to the best of his knowledge just as I have done both then and now. He is an admin over on the Project Pad, has helped with the InDIYana event for quite a while now, and remains a genuine online persona as he is himself in person. He also remains a consistent entity on PETT and MAC to answer budding newbie's questions. A lot of the 'gurus' fade out of the upper perches eventually and quite a few wonder where they go, but it seems Chuck will answer the call for information when the question arises.

Being a genuine approachable person with answers is not a commonality, but it seems that the honorees of this award fit that description.

So be blown away! You excel...

Be aware of EQ's important note:

Here's mine.. Ben aptly pointed out that the pad is eating a good bit (a ton) of unnecessary power. And in my defense this is one of the first passives I've built.. but something to take note if anyone ever tries to replicate this design. Try shifting the shunt resistor back a cap or two; I didn't have time to play around with it ever since I got back. But it can surely be done while retaining the general voicing, and preventing a catastrophic meltdown.

He goes into more detail about his decisions and why he did what he did. It was interesting.
