  • Isetta FE85 substitute

I want to build an Isetta by Paul Carmody but it seems like the Fountek FE85 has been discontinued. However I can get the FE86 which I've seen mentioned as an updated version of the FE85.

    Could I use the FE86 as a drop-in replacement?

You are not the first to ask this, a search will help.

I guess it's gotten real now. I was hoping it was just a supply chain issue. I will look for a suitable replacement.

        Thanks Wolf

Although I only find two posts mentioning the issue. One says they could still find FE85 drivers, the other mentions Tang Band instead.

I'll re-post in that thread and a mod can clean this up

To my knowledge, the Fountek supply is now sparse at best. I hear it was manufacturing shadiness that has led to Fountek's demise.

I meant no offense either, Paul, just making a suggestion in the meantime as a stop-gap. I do think the TB or HiVi will work in the design.

The main reason for the W3-593SF as a suggestion is that it's been done a lot before, is silver like the Fountek, and sounds great. The W3-871S = W3-593SF, as the frame is the only differing element.
