Speaker problem, d8 build

I finished one of my d8's the other day. Really like how it sounds so I pushed hard today to finish the other. The second speaker has little to no bass output at all.
I checked my polarity on speakers from receiver to crossover and from crossover to mids. Any ideas on what I need to check or where I went wrong?

Bad woofer, bad polarity or bad crossover. Are you using the original crossover or Chris Roemer's updated simplified circuit?

if you haven't already...just check that it isn't the amp either - connect the second speaker to the same output terminals as the first....

I think it's the original crossover design, the woofers are new. I did swap speaker leads from the amp. Same thing. My rca cables were a little sketchy but swapped them and same thing. I will have to take crossover out on my next day off and check that. I feel like I didn't do something right on it. I might try new rca cable and try a different output on my amp. I'll post what I find. Thanks

Very likely something crossed up in the crossover - be very careful with this - don't leave it connected to your amp and don't leave it playing. I had something crossed up/touching in a crossover once upon a time that ironically sounded OK - as in no real obvious issue - and it blew my poor Rotel amp to smithereens. It was hot as an iron and so was the crossover!

You could try just connecting the woofer, bypassing the crossover, to quickly check if that solves the problem. Then you know for sure its the crossover.

The Dayton 8 is an MTM with two 8" Dayton DC200 woofers and a Dayton RS28 tweeter, old school. One woofer inop or hooked up backwards would kill the bass.

ah yes, jachristmas - make sure BOTH woofers have the same polarity - otherwise they are just cancelling each other out!

I did check the woofer polarity, pretty sure they are right but I will double check. Was just so pleased with how the 1st speaker sounded and wanted the other to get them going. But have to figure it out

You didn’t hook the woofer up to the tweeter output, did you? I’ve NEVER done that amidst my hasty excitement to crank up the tunes on anew set of speakers…

The easiest polarity test is to connect a battery across the binding posts. With + to + both woofer cones should move out. Get a helper if you can't see around to the woofers when you touch the wires to the battery. I use any AA to D size battery I can find.

Alot of times Ill solder the xo together temporarily and put them in the cabinet for final listening check (which Ill admit can last months) before tidying them up and more permanently mounting. Recently I had a cold solder joint on a parallel tweeter resistor. It must have popped off one of the connections while maneuvering the whole wad of soldered parts into the cabinet... Ran a sweep and found "something is wrong" pretty quickly. Initially I was worried there was more wrong than that, but in hindsight, besides the boosted tweeter response.. the impedance change would explain the wonky xo response I saw.

Try checking if there is any bad solder joint (that happened to me once) and also as other has mentioned, check whether if you have accidentally swop the terminals of the woofer and tweeter.

Sorry for it being so long before I could get back to this, working nightshift.. anyway my problem was I picked the + for the mids in the wrong spot on my crossover. Guess from rushing. But I have it put together and sounds great. I have then up and running but not finished. Have to do some finish work and router my edges. Thanks for all the help
