    Hi,

I have now measured my AR92 speakers and I have concluded that the work I must put into the units is to much for me right now.

I replaced the woofers with 4.7-ohm resistors and the impedance plots indicate that the mids and tweeters are intact. The SPL measurements (see pictures) tell me that one of the mids, having a dented dome, isn´t very healthy. The tweeters seem to be all right.

So, this is the bottom line. I have one good mid (AR #200033) and two good tweeters (AR # 200029-1)

Can these drivers be of use for anyone of you?

    Thanks for your reply,

Yess I will disconnect the woofers and see what comes out of the mid/tw-combo....

I would just disconnect the woofers if the remaining drivers are still running fine. But of course that's not going to give you the right impedance curve for the system, and of course the frequency response will alter to some degree without the woofer.

If you're looking to restore these, best to get the woofers repaired first and then begin any meaningful measurements etc.

    Measuring speakers with broken woofers

    Hi all,

As I mentioned in another thread, I picked up a pair of AR92 last night and coming home, I could see that the woofers surround foam was disintegrated into confetti!

Now this, on top of surface damage and a dented mid, turned this project into a bigger one. But I want to see the actual status of “the rest of the speaker”

Now to my questions. Having a damaged woofer, is it wise to measure system impedance and freq. response in the normal way? Should I protect the voice coils by disconnecting the woofers and replace them with a resistor prior to measuring?

Do you think the drivers are worth some money?
