I've seen stuff like this used in professional audio for auditoriums, halls, schools etc....not in HiFiConstructions: Dayton+SB 2-Way v1 | Dayton+SB 2-Way v2 | Fabios (SB Monitors)
Refurbs: KLH 2 | Rega Ela Mk1

I looked up the patents (US3,819,005 and 3,819,006) filed in 1974. The inventor, James Westlund of Arizona filed a third related patent US4474258 in 1982. The patents focus on the mechanical construction of the designs and give very little explanation of the advantages or principles of the designs.
