  • Duratex Over Vinyl Veneered Cabinets . . .

Looking for advice/direction concerning surface preparation of vinyl veneered cabinets coated with Duratex and if it can be done successfully at all.

    Thanks.

It won't have quite as much of a hold on vinyl as if it's applied to bare wood. I'd do a test on the bottom, scuff the vinyl with 120 grit and apply some duratex, then hit it with a steel putty knife when it's dry to see how well it 's stuck. that said, a lot of vinyl veneer will peel off fairly easily if you wiggle the putty knife in the corner to separate it, adding some heat with a heat gun can help a lot too.
I'm not deaf, I'm just not listening!

Thanks, Sir. Peeling it off isn't something I want to try as these cabinets are quite old.
If it doesn't stick to the bottoms after preparation as suggested I shall investigate PSA veneer.
      Best.

I would be worried about the duratex lifting the vinyl. Another thing to look for as you test.
