  • Dayton Audio BTR01 won't connect to my Android Phone anymore

I have had this Bluetooth Receiver for many years. https://www.parts-express.com/Dayton...512?quantity=1
Trying to use it with my phone recently, it just won't. My phone sees it, but won't connect.
I'm running Android 12 on a OnePlus 8 phone. It's worked in the past.
I unpaired it and paired it again but it still won't connect and my phone doesn't send audio to it. I've also rebooted both devices and still nothing.
Any options to get this working? Or might a recent Android update broke things? Or maybe I'm suddenly doing something wrong?

Can another device successfully connect to the receiver? Can your phone successfully connect and play audio through another bluetooth device? I'd take some steps to make sure which device is actually the culprit.

I have that EXACT problem with my 2-year-old BTR01. It started just a couple of weeks ago, when all of a sudden I couldn't keep it connected to my Android 13 phone. It will pair just fine, and for a split second will look like it's connected, but then it pops back down into the list of devices without connecting. It's not the phone, which connects to other bluetooth devices with no problem. My BTR01 won't connect to my Macbook, either. The behavior of the blue led while in pairing mode has been flakey, too - some times it starts in pairing mode with the blinking LED, other times it blinks once or twice and then remains solid, even if I haven't paired it. I've started an RMA with PE to return it, as it's still under warranty, and they've graciously agreed to accept it and replace it with the newer model that will be coming out in a few months (PE's customer service has always been great.)

Weird that both of our devices are flaking out with the same problem at nearly the same time. It's a bummer, because I really liked this little doohickey, and the specs on the newer version sound like it will be overkill for my usage.

Try updating the current Google Play app. There is an issue where it is causing several problems when updating to Android 13.

At least in my case, the problem isn't the phone, which connects to other bluetooth devices with no problem. Meanwhile the BTR01 won't connect to any other devices. The problem seems to lie with the BTR01.

            Sounds like it's broken.

I've tried connecting multiple different devices to my BTR01. Nothing works. Paring is fine. Connecting doesn't work. Not from a computer or a couple different phones. The phones and computer don't have any issues with any other devices.
But since the BTR01 never gets updates, I wonder if some Bluetooth update in general isn't compatible with the older, non-updated BTR01.
That's sad if all these devices are just bricks now.

Got my replacement from PE - the BTR02. As near as I can tell, it's functionally the same, except upgraded from Bluetooth 4 to Bluetooth 5, and dropping the manual switching for analog/digital output. Love it just as much as the '01.
