  • Connect Buttkicker wireless couch kit to Epson 5050UB?

    Hello all,

    Here is my setup.
    - 2 Devialet Phantoms 1
    - 1 Apple TV
    - 1 videoprojector Epson 5050UB
    - My apple TV is connected to my Epson 5050UB, and I stream the sound via Airplay on the Devialet app, works like a charm.

I would like now to add this system: https://thebuttkicker.com/products/b...less-couch-kit. This system basically makes the couch vibrate, I had one long time ago and loved the feelings of it.

Normally, we are supposed to connect the LFE output or RCA of the subwoofer to the Power ampifier BKA300-P, to make it work.

The subwoofers are already in the Devialet Phantoms 1, and Devialet confirmed there was no way to have the audio out from the speaker.

I was considering buying an HDMI audio extractor to plug it to the Epson 5050UB, and then I could plug the RCA cable to the RCA input of the BKA300-P amplifier, but I need to be sure I am not doing a mistake.

What solution would you offer to have this work? Thank you!

Within the "Product Manuals" section of the site you linked to, there is a document link titled "Download Connecting Buttkicker to a System Without a Subwoofer Output Quick Start Guide."

It tells you everything you need to know.

He was helping as you didn't mention the manual in your post - quit being defensive or no-one will help you further - just say thanks, I read that - any other suggestions?

I wouldn't necessarily consider unclejunebug's comment to be condescending, it might be, I don't know him...but just consider this: he has read your post, bothered to followed the link you provided, read through the linked page, identified a referenced document to something addressing your question and replied with it. Thats taken time - he's given you the most precious thing anyone can give - their finite time!

The audio extractor will work its more a question of what the source is. You would need to check if the apple is sending audio through HDMI at the same time as it's streaming over airplay. Maybe it always is but worth checking as most things have a specifically selected 'audio output device' at any one time. If audio is in fact coming to the Epson at the same time via HDMI you then need to check if it is possible to simultaneously output the HDMI signal (I haven't checked the manual for the Epson) - if its facilitating a pure pass through of the HDMI signal you should be ok.

Might be hard to check all this without buying some of the equipment required.

CORRECTION: Sorry, no need to worry about HDMI pass-through on the Epson - of course you can just use the HDMI audio extractor ahead of the Epson. So its just about simultaneous output from the Apple TV

Thanks DeZZar for your answer, looks like it will be a game of trial and error then. I'll buy the system and keep you updated, so it can help other people. Thanks Steve for the good laugh

Nothing more than a quick response in the middle of my work day citing a document that no mention had been made of previously. It looked to describe pretty much your exact dilemma. Good luck on your project, hopefully it works out for you.

              Hello all!

Hmmmm so the results are not that great to be honest. Here is a photo attached to show how I connected it.

I connected the Apple Tv to audio extractor on the HDMI in port, and connected the videoprojector to the audio extractor via the HDMI out port.

It works, but the buttkicker "kicks in" even when the actors are talking.... Works great with music though, but I wanted to use it mostly for cinema.

Is there a better way to do it to only have the buttkicker "kick in" only for the low sounds dedicated to a subwoofer?

Does the buttkicker have any sort of lowpass switch/setting on it? If it does make sure it's set to something like 80hz or below.

If it doesn't I guess you could make a line level lowpass filter (or maybe you can buy them? Not sure).

Looks like you can buy them. Just google line level subwoofer lowpass filter. eBay, Amazon etc seem to have some options.

Thanks Dezzar, that was a great idea but unfortunately i did some tests on my sofa, I had all the sound isolator on it, but after 10 seconds my neighbor downstairs who is crazy hit the ceiling (I live in New York in a classic building) so I guess I will use the buttkicker in another place without neighbors....sigh.
