  • PE customer service

My DA Wave speaker kit order was incomplete. I received just the flat pack. PE is sending another complete kit per customer service phone call this morning. That's nice.

Bargain price on this kit if you add up the separate prices of the contents. About $375 not counting the flat pack which is not available separately.

They are making customer service priority, and that is good.

    Crutchfield is also very good.

That helps them as a company without a store front.
If yoh are an online seller, I don't see how you cannot be, otherwise your business will fail.

Looking forward to seeing what you do. What are your plans, veneer with black baffle?

I'm in a rut with veneer and black baffles. This requires thought. It'll be awhile, snow coming tonight, garage still cold.

So it got hot here suddenly. I bought some unbacked Red Gum veneer, so I'll have to venture beyond PSA paper backed veneer. It's quite striking.

I have to say, PE put quality XO parts into this kit. A honking 14 AWG 1.0 MH coil, and the caps are all Dayton Precision black and white.

And, I bought MTG Ebay XO PCBs. Excellent quality, highly recommended.

That veneer looks beautiful! Can't wait to see the finished product.

I wouldn't know where to even start with unbacked veneer. Sofar I've only used paper backed with weldwood contact cement.
I'm certainly not good at this. Just stubborn enough to keep going.

The Veneersupply Heatlock adhesive was mentioned in some internet articles. I may try a homebrew PSA using the floor tile tape I have used before. If the finish chemicals don't bleed through and yuckify it. I have enough to experiment.

I found this composite paper backed veneer on Ebay. Some other color combinations, this is the most garish.

I've seen some of those. I think it would be cool to use something like that, i.e., something that does NOT look like typical wood veneer. Tom Zarbo did a build recently with some neat composite veneer from AliExpress.

Would probably be interesting on a small bookshelf speaker. Probably a bit much for a larger one.

One veneered, Red Gum, no finish on veneer. Same baffle paint as the Enigmatic Biumph. I put a bevel on the 4 baffle edges, it comes with a small roundover on sides only.

I added a brace across the front and 3/8" BB blocks at the screw locations, the baffle is 1/2" MDF. I think the Red Gum veneer is quite striking. Worth the effort.

An Ebay seller, fairly cheap. They have lots of odd species.

So I'm listening to these things nearfield with a subwoofer. I think they sound very nice, with excellent imaging.

With one exception, this kit is excellent. That exception being the baffle. The tweeter rebate is both too deep and too large. I shimmed the tweeters up with cardboard gaskets to bring the tweeters level. After assembly, I saw both tweeters were off center in the rebate. I loosened them and put (temporary) cardboard shims around the edges to center the tweeters in the rebates. it's acceptable now. Also the woofer cutout is too large, allowing the woofer to wallow around about 1/4" since it's surface mount. A reprogram would easily fix these errors.

Again, adding up the various component prices shows a large discount on this package. I know many here design their own, but for those lurkers looking for a nice stereo speaker set, these are recommended.
