  • Help much needed, I wish to make my own bass guitar cabs

    Things I know:
**I need a frequency response 30 Hz or lower
    **Loads of attack and resonance
**Two amps/cab set ups from one bass
**Big chunky powerful tone with a high output for performance

    Things I need help with:
**Finding the right speakers for the job
    **Pretty much everything else

anyone feel like giving me a hand? I would appreciate it to no end:D

    Dude,
That is one tall order calling out everyone's different design ideas and personal design philospohies.

You best bet is to build, and learn. You would be foolish not to go with one or two of these...

Disclaimer: I have not herd there but from many years of design myself, and knowing Bill's work out there, It is a great way to start if you do not know much about PA/Cab design.

No, you don't. In fact, that's the last thing you want in a electric bass cab. An SVT has a 58 Hz f3.
If you just want a basic syle cab look here:

Like what was said, you don't need response down to 30hz. An F3 (-3db) point of 50-60hz is usually fine.

You need to tell us what this will be used for. If you need something that will handle a large rock show with no PA backup or if you need something small for bars, and clubs or if you just need a practice cab for the garage band.

For a small-ish practice cab I would use a 15" Eminence 3015LF, and a suitable midrange. An 8" Eminence Beta/Alpha would work fine. Don't use the closed back one. You'll have to build a small sealed enclosure inside the big enclosure for the midrange and work up a crossover. If you're a bass player that likes lots of zingy highs you'll need a compression driver and a horn. This would make it a three way, and the crossover starts getting complicated.

If you don't want to bother with all that, a pair of 10"s in a ported cab works also. A pair of any of these would make a nice little cab. Once you decide which one to use, plug the T/S parameters into winISD and figure out what size enclosure will fit your needs.
