If I am not mistaken, a pair simple 1157 auto bulbs may solve your dilemma. My Norman Labs has these as power limiting sinks.

They also had transparent woofers.. I have on one occasion seen a glow from the cabinets.. could have been the beer... :p

I've been waiting to see/hear what you thought of them!

    On the subject-
Pop-in some 1A slow-blows in the positive leads. This will help that problem. I agree about removing the amp's fuse when gone, but it'll become a hassle. You could always rig up a relay to flip a hidden switch to crank 'em up.

They sound good, amazing what one can do with just 2.5mm of Xmax..

    More later

Blasphemy is better than sorrow. maybe.

And depending on the speaker, a small amp driven into distortion can be worse than a powerful amp pushing a clean signal.

Agree on the heat output of a class A amp. I have two nelson pass A40 mono amps and I can really only use them in the winter. Each amp dissipates about 100 watts, regardless of how loud you have them. They are 100% all the time.

Combine that with my G5 tower and you don't need a furnace!

Pop the mains fuse out of the integrated amp when you leave. Even with a small amp you can do damage to speakers.

FUSE THE speakers or bring a different amp.

started a topic Blasphemy, I know....

    Blasphemy, I know....

.... But I'm seriously considering some sort of a "speaker-protection" circuit.

I leave for college in 1 month. I'll be taking my little Hi-Vi 2-ways with me, they are a 5.25" mid, with a SD1.1 in .25 cubic feet, tuned to 67hz.

I'll also be taking my R9, which is a "Panzer Tank" of an integrated amp. It's been in my family for 25 years, and has never failed..

But I'm worried about my roommate killing the Hi-Vis while I'm not around...

    So what are my choices?

I guess I could fuse the outputs of the R9....

I wont be taking my Tubes (for fear of the rommie, they run at 300V)

And I was going to buy a Nelson Pass designed PA5, but decided that 100w in Class A would make the room just a tad bit uncomfortable...
Working...
