see the baffles double for the front one inside about 7 inches then a second inside about 14 inches then a solid back. I will open my nht 1259 woofer up to show you what I mean . phil

should i do a roundover on the back of my baffel?? i think perhaps a 1/4" roundover. the screw holes are so close to the cut out that im worried that anything bigger and i will start loosing strength. also i was going to round over my braces, but the holes will probly be 14 or 15" across, so the air will probly be moving so slow that it wont effect anything. what do you think??

You mean around the inside edge of the driver hole? I used a 1/2" round-over on the back of this baffle:

I didn't round-over where those threaded inserts are, allowing the max depth of the material for the insert and machine screw. I've seen some guys use a chamfer bit at a 45 degree angle, also. For your braces, you can do the edges of the braces, but I don't think it would make a difference. I made a 2.3 ft3 sub and used 1.5" thick x 3" wide pieces for the bracing side to side, top to bottom, amd one front to back. I didn't round over their edges...the sub works very well and exceeded my initial expectations. Of course, here, I did round-over the holes in the braces:

But that is a much smaller cabinet, about 17" high and 6.5" wide, MTM style...approx .4 ft3. But, I doubt I could hear any difference between a pair with rounded-over bracing and a pair without.

yes i was refering to making a roundover on the back of the driver cutout. i think that ive read that it will allow the air to flow around the edge more smoothly. i feel its probably expecially important due to the 1 1/2" baffel.

For a 1.5" baffle, at least a 1/2" round-over, I'd imagine, or a 45 degree chamfer bit. That baffle in my pic is 3/4" and I still needed a 1/2" round-over because of the way the drivers' frame is designed...with the driver fitted in there without the round-over, the back wave from the little woofer looked pretty restricted.

im not sure that we have a 1/2" roundover at school. i know we have 1/4" and 3/4". ill probably go with the 3/4" to let that baby breathe

                          Re: 15" of pure pleasure

i got my baffel, top, back and bottom all glued together, and cut the hole in the second baffel to slide behind the primary one and rounded over the back. when i test fitted it the holes in the baffels didnt align exactly, there is a slight overlap here and there, less then 1/16th will this effect anything or is it ok?? thanks for your reply.

instead of dowels, im thinking of using two peices 1 1/2" wide peices of mdf laminated togeather, basicly to make a 1 1/2" square of mdf that i could use to brace my large shelf braces with holes cut in them. would this be a better method? i would be using scrap, so it certanly would be cheaper/free

I do that quite often to save money and use up some scrap. I glue up two pieces of MDF for 1.5" like you mentioned. My pieces are usually about 3-4" wide, but a 1.5" square piece would work too.
