The Eton 8-200/A8 Symphony sure looks nice. Even though it is a bit short on x-max, I bet it sounds great. Nice extension.

Re: 8'' two-way any reason why not?

Hello all, I stumbled apon this forum while searching the KLS9/ Audax hm210z0. I too like the 8" two way speaker option, for some reason it has a nice feel to it. My current speaker is a Dayton RS series 8" and a HiVi RT2Ca. I had them crossed at about 2500Hz 12db and they sounded pretty good except the midrange was a bit muffled. So reciently I went out on limb an threw a 4800Hz 24db crossover together and was floored at how well the 8 did up top, especially when you look at the freq. plot on them. It really opened up the midrange. They sound better then they ever did. The only thing I don't like is the peakyness around 1K that the 8's have. I've always had to EQ about -3/4db in that region. Other than that the bottom end extention of these speakers in a 2c.f. ported box is amazing. I don't use a sub anymore since building these. Even for movie's with big LFE they rattle the windows nicely. But now they're about 2 years old and the bug has bitten again. I found a set of Audax HM210Z0's that I always wanted to try, so I'll be swapping the Daytons out soon and playing again. I've always heard a lot of good things about the Areogels and always wanted them in the first place but they disappeared before I could afford them. Lucky me I scored a set on e-bay, so its game on....again...;)

I retrofitted new Morel drivers in my old Infinity Studio 100 monitors until I get around to build my own cabinets . They are 10 inch 2-ways with a tweeter that doesn't crossover low enough . It sounds pretty good, but when I reassembled the terminal and crossover for bi-wiring last month I was able to listen to the woofer only and it sounds not so great at the upper reach of the driver . I'm going to add a midrange or the 27 tweeter crossed over lower

Well I've spent a few months playing with the Audax's and all I can say is WOW. I realize now how colored the mid range was with the Dayton's. The Audax's are so much smoother up top. As for crossovers I started with the 6db set up as in the KLS9's and its sounded quite nice except when the volume was turn up. The HiVi's weren't happy so I've since put them back on a 24db @ 3K. I've been pretty happy so far, still in playing mode...

Re: 8'' two-way any reason why not?

I've messed with the box tuning a bit and have them putting out out some nice bass, very compairable to the Daytons (tuned @40Hz). Still I gave up a bit of low end for a much better mid-range. All in all I'm much happier with the Audaxs. Haven't changed much on the crossovers execpt some padding on the tweets. Next its time to start the build on the final cabs. I bought some 1.5" solid copper round bar and dropped it off to my machinist to have some legs turned on the lathe. They will be tappered from 1.5" to .75" and 3" tall. These go where the silver legs are in the prototypes. The cabs are ported out the bottom, 3" Aeroport/ flare coupled to the floor. I have the solid wood (flammed maple/bloodwood/zebrawood) for the baffles and MDF for the cabs, next I need to find some granite for the bases and the maple veneer for the sides...till next time...

Apparently...why not? I count 4, possibly 5 projects in the works right now using eights and hope most will make their way to Iowa.

                Cheers / Robert

I seem to recall Curt Campbell did one with a small FR driver and a super-tweet. That's one to watch  and one I am looking forward to hearing.

I've kinda been thinking on this one for a while and its at least one project away but I'm considering using the Peerless 830884.

Free support for loudspeaker projects, sourcing OEM speaker building supplies, and passive crossover design. We sell raw speaker drivers (tweeters, woofers, subwoofer, midrange drivers, full range drivers), speaker kits, amplifiers, capacitors, resistors, and inductors.

I'm using the 7" 830883 in a project now, hopefully the 8" is just as nice. Although I don't really did the truncated frame, or the fact that its silver. Good thing you can't hear the color, or can you?........

                              Look,
I am likely to get laughed at, but get a pair of these, b-stock for $99, or e-bay. They are an amazing study/execution of an 8" two way. They are not the highest fidelity, but they will throw a soundstage that will leave you scratching your head, and they show the adantages of a larger woofer format. Even if you buy them, then retuen them within the 30 days, it will be well worth your time , again just to study.

The x-over is AMAZINGLY simple as well.
