  • +/- 1.2mm linear x Tweeter!!!?! whoa

    See here:

    http://www.madisound.com/catalog/pro...oducts_id=8539

And Zaph mentioned this on his blog, it looks good:

    Ok, time for bed now...

edit: Typo in the specs I guess?

    "VC height 1.3
    Air gap 2.5"

That looks like it should be +/- .6mm to me, still decent...

So this is what the world is coming to? Selling tweeters that look like a 3 year old has already had his/her way with it? I am less than impressed. Really I'm interested in the "dimple dome" tweeter. Any word on availability or price yet?

The dimple dome and the metal dome are both listed at $49 at madisound. If you just click on the SB Acoustics logo you won't see them. But they're there.

The 8" woofer, the 4" mid and both of those affordable tweeter models are all out of stock.

Which begs the question...Who's making all the SB Acoustics 3-ways?

        ...fess up, pics please! :D

SBA looks to be making a run at the mid-priced Vifa and low-end SEAS markets with a set of high-end drivers. I have already modeled the SB12 and it's going to make a great small TM for surrounds, and a super midrange for a WMTMW.

I'm also interested in the Alpair 6 that Zaph tested. I'm curious to see how the measurements compare to the Mark Audio published specs and if it sounds full or thin.

The dimpled dome tweeter is actually a ring radiator, the dimple is attached to a non-moving post. I think this tweeter is part of SB Acoustic's new ScAR model line. This may be why it's not available yet. There's more about this tweeter and the new SB Acoustics drivers in the link below.

I've done a kit using the RS270, SB5, and XT25. Very nice for the money. I'm hoping people will catch on to what a great value some of the SB Acoustics drivers are. I've got 3 designs finished, and working on a TM SB5 and XT25 this weekend in a PE .38ft3 box.

Don't forget that SB has their own kits as well.

The MT kit using the SB 6.5" looks weird. The crossover's series coil values are exactly the same as the 5.25" MTM crossover's. And the driver, whose model name is SB17NRXC35-4, seems to be a 4 ohm version, which is not available on the DIY market. Looking at the tweeter padding resistor values, the midbass must be a 4 ohm version.

Jed, what about using the B&G Neo3 with the SB15? It seems to be a natural pairing to me.

Looking further into some of these drivers a 3-way [not including a possible super-tweeter on their most inespensive tweeter] isn't even a consideration or necessity until one gets to the 10" and 12" woofers. Amazing woofer specs!

The bigger the driver the bigger the value it seems with these.
