I'm there. I might be finishing up work by then so it will be a good way to wind down. Probably too early to ask about specifics but, well ya know I'm going to. Same format as last year? If so, class structure the same? Is there a way to DQ Dan Neubecker? (had to, Dan :D). Thanks for throwing together another shindig PE.

I still think it's a crock that they are coinciding the tent sale and event, and that it's on one of the hottest weekends in the year. With that said- I'll be there!

Wolf, PE gets to entertain experienced and wanna be speaker builders on the same day. There's nothing better to whet the appetite of noob builders than for them to see/hear how far they can go.

It does create a time crunch for those of us building the speakers. Maybe we should lobby for "early entry" into the tent sale by virtue of our continuing support?

How about it richt? Let competition entrants enjoy some early entry perks!

Re: Dayton DIY - July 11th, 2009 - Save The Date!

As the date is only 53 weeks after my first speaker build in 35+ years, I am very happy that Dayton DIY coincides with PE's tent sale. I would love to have gone last year. It's possible that my opinion will change after a few years, but I doubt it. As a telescope maker, the vendor tables are a major draw at the big star parties, and the swap meet is a highlight of Stellafane, even now that I've got more telescopes than I can use!

Simply put, how do ordinary folks like me get to see the new stuff in a venue that includes experienced people who can at least tell me what is actually "new" about it, and possibly have already evalulated samples?

InDIYana was my first event, this will likely be my second, and the first with a chance to spend money. My wife won't understand buying more drivers - she didn't understand my InDIYana door prize haul - but caps, resistors, inductors are needed in an assortment if one wants to design and tweak crossovers. If I bring a speaker design for evaluation, I can get recommendations for improvement, and bring home the parts needed to implement it.

I can see how it might seem crass, but it's good business for PE to maximize the number of DIY afficianados and practitioners through their tent sale. What's the down side, save for the weather which we can only hope is clear and sunny? (The following weekend is RochStar Fest, when we do a bit more than hope for clear skies!)

                  HAve fun,
Frank, who's off to HD for test enclosure supplies (D*mn birds are going to screw up my FR measurements if I keep the winidows open)

Oh tell me I didn't read that. You and I need to have a talk, Frank. I don't need another way to boil away my savings but that is something I'd love to get into.

This sounds interesting. I have never been to one of these. Id really like to get around to something like this some day!

                      What all goes on???

is it just people showing off there sweet builds? do they have a speaker (no pun intened) come in and give a lecture or anything on the side??? The tent sail sounds like a bounus!...but perhaps a bit distracting.

                      someone fill me in!

                      :D

What kind of gear is used, or do we have to bring our own? What if we have speakers that dip down to 2ohms, etc...?

Same gear for every speaker pair entry. PE provides the gear, and the test tracks. You can pick your own, but they will tell us how this year will be running. I would advise a min 4 ohms and banana jack capability.

I have seen plenty of results from these events and every time I dream of going, just to speculate and experience! Where is this event usually held? (state wise)
