  • Damaged CD Player

Does anyone have any use for a Cambridge 640C CD player that no longer has any analog output, but appears to still read and play and CD OK? A couple of weeks ago we had a close call with a lightening strike. Afterwards I discovered that my Cambridge would read a CD - it shows tracks and time, will pause, stop, play etc., but I get no outout on the analog RCA outputs. Since my preamp is older I can only use the analog signal so I do not know if the digital output is working or not. I have replaced the player, but I am not sure what to do with the old one. It appears to be a nice transport at the moment, and has a nice universal remote too, but that's about it. Does anyone think they can use it for something? If so, contact me and we will work something out.

I would be interested if there were any way to determine if the digital output worked. If not, I'd hate to throw money at a completely "fried" player.

It could just be a toasted opamp in the output section, or the power supply feeding the output section. I'd be willing to troubleshoot it. Have you opened it up? Anything obviously burned?

I have not opened it. I appreciate the offer to look at it. However, someone already contacted my via PM, and I am going to send it to them. But, thanks again for the offer.
