Just wanted to post one of my favorite songs of all-time from my favorite band, Alice in Chains. Many people have never heard this song before so give it a shot:

Does it make me a geek that I have had this video on my hard drive for the last several years?

It's all out of love, believe me. Alice in Chains is up there in my top 3 or so.


PS: You're right. The vocals are different on some of these. "Them Bones" sounds like maybe an alternate take? "Down in a hole" however sounds like a completely different performance and mix than what's on Dirt... the drums, for instance: a lot less reverb, a lot more cymbals.

Wow, great stuff guys. Chris Cornell can melt your face off if you're not ready for him. Kim Thayil is also crazy good. Really unique guitar work.

Dude, that's weird. How'd that Soundmachine guy get all those Seattle band recordings with just vocals? I've been in enough recording studios (and worn out the original recordings enough) to know that that's the real vocal track. (You can hear the backing tracks through the headphones sometimes, plus some in-studio rustling brought out through compression) So how'd he get that?

I think the thing I like the most about those vocal tracks is the lack of AutoTune and other ProTools perfection. I love music with actual human mistakes in it!! :D

EDIT: No wait... someone figured it out. He took Rock Band and extracted the audio files. (Another geek moment: I've done this before with other video games. "Day of the Tentacle," "Psychonauts," "7th Guest," "Intelligent Qube"... the list goes on)
