  • Budget Scanspeak Tweeters....

......sort of. It appears that part of the fall-out of the Tymphany break-up is that Scanspeak is now building a couple of the former Vifa tweeters in-house and selling them under the Discovery line of Scanspeak drivers. Tooling was probably brought over from the Vifa shop, but maybe Scanspeak's quality control will make a difference. Anyway, regardless of how it all came about, these are great prices for anything built in Scanspeak's facility. (Sorry to plug the other guys on PE's forum, but I felt this was news that was worthwhile to all).

Free support for loudspeaker projects, sourcing OEM speaker building supplies, and passive crossover design. We sell raw speaker drivers (tweeters, woofers, subwoofer, midrange drivers, full range drivers), speaker kits, amplifiers, capacitors, resistors, and inductors.

    These look pretty good too.

Hopefully the pricing will be in line with the rest of the discovery line.

Those look like Vifa tweeters. I hear that the Peerless HDS is now a ScanSpeak Discovery. What's going on?

From what I hear, SB Acoustics - a company, ironically, composed partially of ex-ScanSpeak engineers - is catching up fast. None of their stuff competes with ScanSpeak's best, but it's a heck of a lot cheaper - and improving rapidly.

        Isn't competition grand?

Those appear to be the DX25, and a variant of the same. The FR even looks alike. Thing is, there is a NEW DX25 also from MAD, called the DX25-09-04 (previous was the -05-04) and is a virtual overlay of the previous according to the specs. So- is this just to keep the DX25 from Vifa, AND make the DX25 as a SS driver like the XT25?

What's the deal with these? Are the chinese made vifa counterparts still in production, or are they stopping production of those? It seems foolish to be making 2 versions of the same thing, but on the other hand, the idea of paying a whole lot more for the same thing isn't exactly appealing either.

              There are more.

The Peerless HDS tweeter is now being sold as the Scan-Speak Discovery D2608/9130 1" Textile Dome HDS Tweeter:

Fortunately, the price is still at $78 as it was when it was a Peerless driver.

There are also a number of interesting looking fiberglass mids and midwoofers in the discovery line as well. Fortunately they are in black and not the yellow that doomed the old MG line. Madisound isn't showing them yet but probably will down the road.

                  "budget" ha!

Now those Vifa buyout tweeters, that's what I call budget.

Doh, I was hoping maybe they knocked $10 or $15 off the price :(

                    It looks like Vifa pricing.
