  • For those of you that purchased the Exodus Audio EX6.5"ers...

    'Skatz' commissioned this one....

I call them the 'Bexlers', as the B, EX, the -ler from the 'Kepler', and the ~local lake 'Bixler' kind of fell in line...

He bought the SB25 for a lesser cost than the HDS, and it looks really good on paper!

We used real T/S, impedances, and traced FR plots.

Without further adeaux, here's the theorization...

Box is for the PE 0.5ft^3 box, outputs are in the 100dB arena with 15W:

driver placement (2" offset for SB's):

    simulation:

    preliminary xover:

I actually get to make sure these sound right too. I'll be meeting up with skatz to audition them when the time comes.
    Thanks for looking!

Thanks! I also bought a pair of the Exodus (currently stashed awaiting..) and was wondering if the Ex is worthy of the more expensive SB29.

Zaphs' review of the SB25 tweet mentions some kind internal reflection problem at 3.5khz, although the freq. response graph does not show anything unusual to me. I belive I've read elsewhere someone has taken the tweet apart and perform some kind of modification.

The SB25 will not have the poor off axis response that the SB29 has.

Please clarify. I've been looking at these and the SB29 appears to be the clear winner. On paper, in reviews, etc.

SB29RDCN-C000-4 (I like the small flange):

          SB25STC-C000-4

While I see the few dB diff above 15KHz, the SB29 is clearly flatter in the 2K-10K region. I see that Zaph's Chameleons got rave reviews - and that's great. But why do you suggest that the SB25 has better off-axis response?

I'm truly interested as I am considering the SB29RDCN very seriously.

          Thanks!

I'll be doing my own similar design with the new RS28F tweeter "soon". Never know exactly what "soon" means for me though sorry :o.

I made one box then decided the baffle is too narrow to roundover and will prob. go back to the 8.5" x 14" baffle size.

I'll prob. go ahead and do a version w/the RS28A tweeter also. And - the same box/baffle will also work for the 6.5" Peerless Nomex HDS woofer Didn't check if the same port tube length will be suitable for both the Peerless and Exodus woofers yet though...

Good looking driver. I can't wait to hear it.

The numbers on the port are so low that one could potentially get a cleaner sound by reducing the pipe diameter to 1.5". This would likely reduce the strength of the resonance and push the frequency of the resonance up.

At the same time, it isn't that bad to start with. It's not like -5dB or anything like that.

Granted, it would push the frequency higher for a smaller diameter port. However, it could also make the xover harder to blend with the blemish in that region.

It was a tradeoff I made, but I'm not really upset about it. The spec-sheet specs a 2" diameter, so I used it. I don't want port compression at higher volumes, so this is also a consideration with it's 9mm Xmax.
                Shouldn't be an issue.

Yes, they're built and I will bring a pair to Dayton in July. I agree that the sb29 looks to be the better tweeter, but cost double. I needed six of these so the cheaper one won. Ask Wolf, but I heard no problems with the tweet.

                      Todd-
I like how these turned out! Smooth and non-fatiguing.

The only minor complaint I have is that the woofer tends to 'overhang' a bit on some complex music, so it's not quite as quick as it could be at times.

If you have the drivers, I think you would be happy with a set.

Thanks Steve. I've got a quad of the EX6.5s and a pair of SB29s (small flange). Modeling out a MTM-TL or MTM-ported for them and was wondering if anyone else had done the same.

                        You happy with the sound?

The resistor was bumped up an ohm, but I was happy with them. I was invited over to voice them, and it wasa fun afternoon!

                            Ben,

I'm highly confused...there's only eight pieces in your crossover. Isn't that like six short of your minimum? I was under the impression that PE threw you 'a bone' for every one of your x/o's they sold!!! :p

                            Hugs,

I highly recommend you switch to Response Modeler 3 rather than version 2 for modeling the cabinet diffraction. There were issues with this section of version 2 that were resolved in version 3. Version 3 has been out since last December.
