  • Need a nearfield/desktop design?

Well as some of you know, we moved into our new home a few months ago and the projects have taken hold now that the winter is upon us. The new place has a family room for casual video/audio, a dedicated HT room underway with 100" screen, 5.1 and an IB and my office space for chatting with you guys while listening to my extensive collection of music.

So..new room....new gear or at least that's the excuse i'm using for this project. I need a small pair of nearfield speakers for my desktop. They'll be about 3ft away from me and about 5ft from eachother. Regretfully they need to be almost against the rear wall that the desk is up against. They'll be used with a sub below the desk (probobly sealed RS270) vrossed actively. A small MT is what i'm thinking.

Truthfully i do most of my listening in this office, but yet have given it the attention it deserves. I'd like this to be as articulate as possible for critical listening. I like the feedback i've seen on the TB W4-1337's so i was wondering if anyone had any ideas. Jed over at HT guide has a 2way design using it that looks pretty good. Any ideas?

The D4's are impressive to say the least, and are very smooth and nice.

Since you are targeting that area of the MT DIY arena, I would suggest:

    LouC's C-killas or Cryolites.
My Vijon. (Contact me for more info if you want) or Sophomores for cheap.
    Shawn's Arpeggios.
    Paul's Overnight Sensations.
    Jeff's Dreydels.
    Roman's Microbes

Wolf, as a new guy here, I'm not familiar with those builds and searching for just a "D4" didn't work too well for me. :(

Can you post a link to the D4's you're talking about?

Is there a thread anywhere on the site that has a list of all the other builds for the newer guys to read about?

      Thanks

I might just go it in my own with this and the W4-1337 and a suitable tweeter in a whole new design. I am intrigued by Paul C's OS's and the rave reviews it's gotten from the gang.

They're still sealed in the original boxes! :o

I just like to build, I have absolutely no understanding of crossovers yet. And that's goes for the parts and the assembly. But I have to start soon.

I did just finish up those ACI subs (you helped figure the enclosure size if you recall), not sure if you saw the thread at AVS or not. I'm debating on the line arrays for the next project or the one listed here with the 6.5" Tangbands that were on sale last week. Or two to three 083's with an 18" passive radiator.

Too many projects, I just like to see what's out there to work on. :D

I use these (my "Xenums") as nearfields at the moment:
