  • Bose Buster? $ 15 each including shipping

Harmon Audio has a special sale on Infinity TSS 750 satellite speaker for $15 each including shipping. HT (Home Theater Magazine) had a glowing review on the TSS 750 package. HT even measured the frequency response of this tiny extruded aluminum enclosed speaker. Both the mid and high ranges are very flat except the highs are 5-6 db higher than the mids. I think it is easily correctable by supplement the mid and low with a slightly larger woofer. The basic strength of the speaker is its clarity.

“In fact, the TSS-750 seemed to reveal everything, both good and bad, in each track I threw at it. I began to speculate that this system must measure pretty flat. It just had that sense of accuracy and detail that you hear through flatter-measuring speakers”

It is an interesting Bose Buster Bargain.

I think this is the article referred to:

I like speakers with "detail", and I am not surprised that these speakers give the impression of detail. The problem is this particular frequency response would exaggerate detail with the higher upper-mid and treble. (The graph isn't that bad, I would call it a 3 dB step.)

It would be interesting to rework the crossover for a flatter frequency response. Certainly would be a budget project with potentially nice looking results. Who ever wants them, should decide quickly because I only see 3 speakers available.

Thanks for linking to the HT article. I meant to include it but obviously I forgot.

Another comment gleaned from this article and other reviews is this speaker does not break up easily when pushed. Not bad for a 3.5 inch woofer. Also rather interesting is at the advertised crossover point of 3.5k Hz there is a very smooth transition. Normal price for this speaker is anywhere from $ 80-100 each. Only 3 are left indeed. I already bought 4 of those this morning.

Three more were sold. Now a new batch of 6 TSS- Sat 750 becomes avaialble on eBay!

If indeed this is a 8 ohm model I can stack them(head-to-head) up as audiophiles did way back with double AR LST double Advents and double Minimus 7. I may even disconnect one the tweeters to gain some spectral balance. I can also try to use them as my computer speakers becasue my Monsoon ribbon speakers(with build-in small sub) can use some upgrading.

I'm wondering the shelf in the response would smooth out if they were measured on a wall or sitting buried on a bookshelf...
Don't listen to me - I have not sold any $150,000 speakers.

...or measuring them 30 degrees of axis as if they were mounted on the wall above the television.

The response curve probably is measured in 4 pi condition. If placed near a wall or flush with books on a bookshelve, the speaker will see a 2 pi condition. We may gain 3-6 db right?

Intuitively I feel asking a cone weighs 20 gm(typically for a 6-8 incher) to produce 1000 Hz is a lot harder than asking a cone weighs 4.3 gm(the cone mass of 3.5 -inch such as 290-208). The larger cone will be hard to start and even harder to stop as compared to a smaller lighter cone.

Just got 4 of Infinity TSS Sat 750. I hooked them in parallel with 2 sealed NHT 1259(with its own passive 100 Hz lowpass) and to a vintage Luxman receiver(R 361). Voices, piano and classical music sound very clear yet not shrill, bass might to be a little too much due to the higher efficieceny of 1259 vs TSS 750. What surprises me is how TSS750's sound without the subwoofer. They sound quite balanced even without the bottom octave! And they can play louder than Radioshack Minimus 7, LX4 and have less irratating quality. In addition, they are very listenable even from a different room. At roughly $7.5 per driver not counting the beautiful extruded aluminum enclosure and gold plated 5-way binding posts in the back, I am happy with my X-mas gift! Harmon still has some on eBay. They have sold at least 3 or 4 batches of 6 each since I bought mine. Since I don't have measuring capability I will just have to depend on my ears for judgement(very biased of course).

Thanks for the tip on these. I got mine today. Build quality is excellent for these little guys. I'm sure they will beat the pants off the 7s. I'll find out this weekend when I hook them up. Cute little buggers...

I've bought "refurbished" stock from Harman on ebay before. I think they call it refurb to not tick the people who paid full price off. These are new in box, I'm pretty sure.

Every time I've heard an Infinity with that ceramic/metal dome tweeter, it's always sounded slightly "warm" but details were still clearly audible. Some HT fans don't like them for that reason, I guess because sound effects are not as clearly heard, but IMO for extended music listening sessions that is a positive thing.

What surprises me is that they sound quite good even without subwoofers. I know they have exteded highs because the cymbal and violin sound quite natural so are the vocals. I always thought you have to have extended lows to balance the highs. Maybe distortion is more important than frequency response.
