I always enjoy your build threads.
    Thanks

I only have the big one, which I had to shoehorn my Rigid palm router on. Some of the small holes are unusable due to the frame of the router being in the way. So on small holes I have to get creative.

On a separate note, I used polyurethane glue for the first time on the small brace, and I think I prefer that to regular yellow glue. Longer setup time, which I like, plus since it expands just a bit, its gap filling! I am going to finish out this build with it.

It seems like there aren't many people posting build threads these days. What gives? I think even if you build a design that's been done a thousand times, there is always something that someone else can learn from pics or the accompanying writeups.

I think it has to do with the really cold temperatures. I've been working outside a bit (it was 5 degrees F yesterday when I was routing), so progress is a little slow (I can't stay out there for long). Then I have to wait for the MDF to warm up so I can glue it. My basement is about 55 degrees F, so it's right at the lower limit for Titebond.

I figure I'll start a build thread soon. My photo uploading site was hacked (none of my old build threads have photos any more), and now I have to get a new one.

I agree with you...I love looking at build threads...but your shop it TOO CLEAN :D!!!

The build threads are what go me to join this site. I will follow any build thread be it large or small, easy or complex. The ones with good pictures (such as yours) give a lot of good detail information without having to write a word. Such as laying out crossovers, routing cirlces, tools used, etc.
There is so much valuable info discussed here that it is hard to assimilate everything. Shoot, just this week I learned that overpriced caps cause global warming.

I am a bit surprised that there aren't more DIY'ers that post comprehensive pictures and writeups. So many times I see a post by someone proud of their just finished speakers, and they have 2 pictures... from a cell phone!

What an immaculate build so far. You take your time, and do it right. It really shows.

              Looking forward to more pics!

I don't eyeball. I use an L-square and line up the upper or lower pair of screwholes in the driver with the driver inside the rebate. mark holes, remove driver, drill and check.

Oh- and as a visual point only, I don't like to cardinal-mount drivers. To me they look like they are actively balancing a tightrope underneath, and look unstable and might possibly tip-over. I always place 2 mounting holes under the woofer instead of one. I know that's odd, but if I can avoid cardinal-mounted drivers, I will. I've had screw-ups in a few builds long ago where I had to redrill and rotate the drivers, but that was a mistake.

I just eyeball a pleasing configuration, than use L-square to make sure the side screws are aligned vertically.

I'm with Wolf, I-shaped screw configuration looks, unbalanced.

                      Re: New build with pics...

Got a little more work done.

Have the enclosures glued up. Next up is routing the front back using flush bit.

I am planning to paint the baffle semi-gloss black, using a felt roller. Sides top and back will be veneered with maple, (Band-it brand from PE)

                      Inside shot.

Being that this is a sealed design, should not liberally applied glue be sufficient to seal? I have seen people use silicone sealant on the inside seams, but is that really necessary? I would be surprised if any air could get through those glued joints.

Maybe is more of a hope, as it will be a PAIN to apply sealant to the inside seams, since I have closed it up...

If you drill a pilot hole before you set the screw, you can back a screw in and out of MDF 20 times without damage to the MDF, but you MUST drill a pilot first.

I agree with Pete, pilot holes are a must with MDF.

feel your pain on lack of room for hurricane nuts. One thing you can do, especially for a tweeter where they aren't taking any stress is to bend up one side of the little flat plate (stick it in a vise and a few hammer taps suffice).

You're fine. The places I find the most problems are the mounting holes for drivers and terminal plates. If you've applied glue liberally, as it looks like you have, I doubt any air is moving through any of your seams.

CK, those looking great so far! I will be interested to see how you finish the maple veneer and to get your impressions of the sound when they are finished. I have 4 of the woofers for the MTM version but have not pulled the trigger on the SB tweeters yet.

Oh...and I wish my table saw was that nice & shiny. Mine didn't look that good even when it was new!!
