Has anyone used Eaton drivers? They look to gave fairly good sensitivity and a reasonable price. I know Avalon uses their woofers...

I seen some DIY Eton stuff on one of the European sites I'll try to find it for you. I'll soon be building the Eton 8.1 kit for myself. I just have a few things that are driving me a bit nuts that I have to complete first.
I suspect that this will put me under attack but Etons are my favorite drivers and I too don't understand why there isn't any designs on the forums.

Lee Taylor built the Eton 8.1

You don't know how much research went into those drivers, or why they sound as good as they do. I've heard a set or 2 of Eton, and I liked what I heard. Granted, they are rather expensie, and that is the sole reason for not being used more I feel.

                    Re: Eaton Drivers

Eton is up there with Scans and Seas in terms of quality and consistency. Well , may be not at the same exact level but not far below. Eton is not that popular in US probably due to the marketing reasons but they are very respected among DIYs in Europe. I think Usher Audio uses Eton woofers in their larger designs. As far as I remember Sonus Faber used them in some designs as well. I personally know of a mega $$$ speaker system that made class A Stereophile (granted it doesn't say allot) that uses Eton 1inch silk dome.
I've heard them, I think they are very good. Implementation and design as always more important.

                        Re: Eaton Drivers

I have heard Eton drivers in Sonus Faber and also in Audio Physic speakers and both designs sounded exemplary. I also have read good things about the on line Eton DIY kits at Solen and Madisound that a few have built. I think they get heavy use by DIYers in Germany, but not so much in the U.S. The German and Euro DIY mags and websites seem to use Eton drivers frequently. I also have examined a number of the Eton units at the Meniscus Audio booth at RMAF the past few years and the build quality looks excellent. Their high-end tweeter is a Heil AMT-like design. As stated, I think Eton's higher prices turn off folks.

                          Re: Eaton Drivers

Eton would be wise to follow the example of other manufacturers and lower their overhead to lower prices. German highschoolers are probably better at building tweeters than most.

I have heard Eton in many designs, and was only really impressed with their large woofers, which are absurdly expensive, but performed very well.

Yes but Chinese preschoolers can build them cheaper.

They look to me to be a tad cheaper than scanspeak. I notice a few high end manufacturers using them. I am considering them but never used them before...

Their tweeter is only $65 bucks and looks pretty flat. I would love a set of scanspeak tweeters but thats about $600... The only thing I did not like about the eaton tweeters id the thin face plate and the big screw heads sticking out... I will probably look for another tweeter. But I did like their midranges and woofers...
