Rear-mounting the woofers, and using the 6.5" standard eWaveguide form factor, you MAY be able to get dual 10s in.

I mentioned before that baffle was 27" Wide x 21" Tall, but after taking them off for the first time in years, I really only have 24" Wide x 16" Tall to work with without taking a sawzall to the bracing.

Which one of your crossover designs do you think would work best in such a setup?

Don't be afraid to modify the bracing - it is only wood. Working with 16", my vote is for the Deltalite 10 (in ~1.5 ft^3?), Selenium D220Ti driver, Dayton 6x12 waveguide, and the "LE14 variant" of the standard high efficiency eWave crossover. Yes, you may need to trim a little here or there to make it fit, but probably not much if at all. I use this combo for my center channel. You could tweak the LF filter but my preliminary measurments (and desire to get finished) said it was close enough for me. Just rig it up so you can acess the XO easily if you want to tweak it in the future.

Why am I happy with close enough? Becasue my Yamaha HTR has the YAPO (or whatever) auto equalization capability and I let it fine tune the system to the actual in room response. Let technology take over where you leave off. Run the HT sub XO at 80Hz and you are done.

The concerns for directivity that have us talking about c-c spacing result in freeing our "head from the vice". Our position within the sound field has a lot to do with our enjoyment of the music, with the degree to which the image of the musicians is recreated.
The lobing of the response pattern that results from having drivers too far apart can only be cured with equalization in a very limited location, hence the "head in a vice" term. The mic for the "YAPO (or whatever)" had better be positioned where you head will be. The response anywhere else will be compromised.
If the drivers are too far apart wrt the crossover frequency, much of the enjoyment that may be experienced from the recording will be lost.

Skew the odds in favor of a successful outcome by mating the lowpass developed for whatever woofer you're going to use with the original Econowave highpass, high-efficiency variant, for the greatest flexibility.

When you say "original Econowave highpass, high-efficiency variant" are you referring to your design for the original e-wave posted on this thread dated 1/20/10 ....

Yes they are level!



They sound really good, and I mean really good. Just moving around tonight and every thing just seemed balanced where the sound wouldn't change. Details are there, bass is there, a little bit lacking in mids. They just complement the fronts so well.


Also, zilch as you can tell this is a bit of a franken 10e build. Its uses all of the stuff from the 10e build but I switched the woofer to a dayton 10" pro and the 152i waveguide.

Given your inverted mounting, an adjustment to the forward lobe might be in order. Mids should be excellent given the measurments.

Maybe Pete or Zilch can flex some PCD and sim something for this specific orientation???

I am just using the ears at the moment though. I only have a little time with them though. I will try and get some measurements over the next month though but I don't have the greatest equipment or know how with room eq. I didn't flush mount the woofer either.

Long time lurker, first time poster here.

I have been reading about WG designs on numerous forums, and have considered multiple designs including ewaves (multiple versions!), 3/4Pis, Brandon's NQ (love the look!) and a commercial offering - the new TCA Pro10.

Though I like the small form factor of the Pro10, I couldn't get the needed info/reviews from the manufacturer/forums to feel comfortable ordering that design. And if I can build something better for about the same or less price....?

So, I decided to jump off the cliff and into my first DIY main speaker with the ewaves! I ordered the QSC WGs (3), so now I'm committed.

I do need some help settling in on a final design. I'm building a LCR set of three for my dedicated media room. It's 22x18x9 (3500 cuft), and the speakers will reside behind a shallow false AT screenwall. They will be right up against the front wall, with only enough room to move them being some modest toe-in (17" clearance behind the screen, a few inches more to an AT area next to the screen, where width becomes an issue).

I liked a set of Klipsch Heresy I's that I auditioned in my room from a detail/dynamics POV, but they had harsh/VERY bright mids and highs, especially in female vocals. They had to go.

My choices after much gnashing of teeth, are:
1) Deluxe
2) Deluxe HO
3) Delite 12

Same tweeter, different woofer. Reading about the B&C driver being notably smoother than the Ti220, leaned me that way with my sensitivity to harsh highs. Regarding the woofer section, I'm at a loss trying to sort through all the builds and data. Obviously I want the best polars and smoothest freq response (who doesn't?), along with a great listening experience. Other useful data to help decide on which build would suit me best is the following:

Large room: 22x18x9 (3500 cuft), dedicated room

Location: Tight to the front wall behind AT screen, but not in formal corners. Do all of these designs have BSC figured in? Is that appropriate in this case (Wayne at Pi doesn't appear to think so)? It is really tough to sort out for me in looking over the designs (never built a crossover - yet).

Power: High power handling - not needed. High efficiency - needed. I'm running a Denon 1909 at ~100w/ch. No external amp an option here, and would like plenty of headroom.

Sub match: Currently a single 15" TempestX2 in a 6.3cuft ported enclosure to 19hz. Will likely add a second to smooth out terrible 40hz listening position room modes.

Rears: Bipole/dipole SL/R and monopole RearSL/R. at about 90-92db sens. I know it will be a big mismatch between the fronts and rears, but if the surround effects compress out some, that's much more tolerable than the bad compression I'm getting from my front Infinity 362s/PC350.

Uses: HT 85%, music 15%.

Box size: About 1.5cuft. Will likely have a form factor nearly identical to Brandon's NQ - it's attractive, compact, and appears well thought out. Hope he considers imitation the sincerest form of flattery. :^) No 3-4 cuft boxes here. They need to fit nicely behind my screen without getting the drivers too high above ear height.

Which driver/build do you think fits best?

If you've made it this far, you're either a saint for helping, or have too much time on your hands. :D Sorry for being longwinded.
