Another option for mounting the woofer if you're using the 12" x 6.5" waveguide is to enlarge the woofer opening just a bit bigger than the outside diameter and mount the woofer from the front to a speaker ring glued on the back of the baffle. That'll recess the woofer in the plane of the baffle itself. Round over the opening, if you like, but I thought that approach came out quite well in the Delite 10e variant, and will probably finish up the pair:

Pipe foam with double stick tape on it, they come that way, Home Depot.

No measurements, buuuut the older yellow foam roundover sounds better on the WG. I don't know why.

The smaller radius black closed foam sounds annoying. May be accenting a frequency in the 8-12K hz range?
Closed-cell foam is acting as a solid surface; I believe I saw open-cell somewhere locally, which would absorb, as well. I'll look again as I browse my favorite building supply haunts....

          Hi Zilch,

This is a great thread and want to congratulate you on some very interesting reading I want to build the Delta lite 10, but want to use the Beyma 10G 40. This driver has great bass out put. will this driver work? Also, how important is it to place the 18 Sound wave guide below the 10" driver as shown in your picture.

            Sorry Zilch,

Forgot to mention that I will be using the DE250 on this wave guid and the crossover for it that is with the Delite 10. I want to put this driver in a 2cuft vented box. what do you recomend the tuning to be (+- 35hz?)

The systems are upside-down on the test stand in the pics for measuring convenience. In all cases, normal listening position is with the waveguide above the woofer....

                    Hi Zilch,

What would be the largest ported cab that the Delta light 2510 would work in with the DE250 and the dedicated crosover. Could you give the recomended tuning as well. Thank you for your help

                      Stu,

Check out the "recommended designs" under the "project ideas" tab for some ideas. Here... http://www.parts-express.com/pdf/290-591c.pdf
Cabinet size/tuning affects power handling so biggest or lowest probably isn't "best" unless you are going with relatively low power and/or a steep rolloff to a sub (which probably negates the need for the biggest/lowest tuning anyway). Modelling the the key...

Hint: Go with 2512 and use the completed crossover design and save yourself the trouble of trying to rework the crossover for the 2510/DE250 combo. http://techtalk.parts-express.com/sh...07#post1637407

My current xover. Before I begin measuring and doing it right in Nov.

Sounds very good for all its imperfections.

Still has 1-2 peaks that need taming but I haven't gotten lucky in finding them by ear.

I improved the "sound" from the black foam round over on the WG by increasing the diameter of the foam with a foam strip inserted inside the foam tube. Annoying sound stopped. Did not expect that.
The older yellow WG is closed cell foam like the black pipe foam and has a bigger diameter.

The black foam roundover on the 10" kept falling off. The tape didn't work so well. I tossed that idea out.

Next I tried to eliminate the earliest source of diffraction I could.
I pulled off the 3/16" thick rectangular cardboard ring around the driver edge next to the metal lip for mounting. Replaced it with a wedge shaped, for smoother transition, pipe foam with tape. Sounds better than the big round over, no foam wedge or cardboard ring. Did not expect that either.

                        See fuzzy photo.

What Don said. Fact is, I don't know, and would go through that very exercise to arrive at a recommendation. There are several UniBox practitioners participating in this thread who have posted credible analyses for the various woofers used here....

As with all designs, there's a tradeoff. Larger boxes can produce a lower, louder extension of bass but there's a cost. The larger enclosure has less of an air spring or compliance therefore less control over the excursion of the cone. First result is the driver achieves Xmax at FB sooner meaning less power handling. Second is an increase in group delay which if excessive ca be quite audible and often reffered to subjectively as 'slow' or 'sloppy' bass. I've done a few test enclosures with the 2510 and find that 2cuft tuned to 50hz gives the best balance of LF extension, power handling and SQ. The F3 is roughly 45hz and below this room gain should pick up a few DB lost on the 3rd order BF alignment. There's no control of excursion below that so......BE CAREFULL.....or employ a HP filter of some sorts if you're planning on pushin em hard.

Now you could squeek out some more low end with a 3cuft tower design but the above rules apply. Here's that graph. Notice the 2db loss from 100hz on down to tune......

I've never really thought of 10" pro woofers as usefull LF devices and the 2510 is no real exception as Xmax is relatively low and there's not a lot of surface area either. I'd employ a subwoofer from 60hz on down with a 3rd order LP filter. If you had dual subs or bass bins, then the 2510 becomes an EXCELLENT candidate for a sealed alignment and a 100hz shallow HP filter for a 'blend' to the subs. Less excursion, more power handling and a cleaner midrange.

                              Porting help please.

The more I play with winisd the more confused I am getting on porting the 1.65 CU/FT PE trap box and the PA310-8 for the Econowave SR Compact. Porting them low like 32 seems to really roll off the low end on the graph porting them higher like 50 looks better but in the past porting things that high got me poor sound quality (may have been my lack of other skills) so does someone have a porting recomendation? I would like to use a 3" port or 2 but it looks like 2 may be a tough fit.
                              Thanks,
                              Mike

                                Hi Mayhem,

Thank you for all the tips, I guess x max is the biggest limiting factor, that is why i originally wanted to use the Beyma 10G40. This driver has got over twice the x max pluss decent extension and is only 1db less efficient. It is a question of which driver is cleaner in the mid range
