Definitely time to get up and build some SRs for those on the fence. I just finished mine - here's a link to my build thread on AVS. :D

Well, I finally jumped in with both feet and completed my first speaker main build. After much reading on many forums for new L/C/Rs for my media room, I settled in on Zilch's Econowave SR as a low budget high performance build. What I wanted was a relatively compact L/C/R that was high...

Thanks to everyone for your help in design and inspiration, especially Zilch!

I'll post some more listening impressions as I get a chance to break them in and tweak them a bit.

    Best,

      Hi Christopher,
Nice job! The harshness you hear in the top end is the breakup of the diaphragm, it's inherent to the tree of life design embossed into the titanium. Have a look at the CSD for the d220ti measured by augerpro. Maybe if you ask nice Zilch will whip up a design for a BMS 4550

I was suggesting a BMS + Dayton combo

Actually I was wondering are there any readily available drivers that are comparable to the Altec WRT pattern control? Hopefully more cost effective options exist.

I don't know the design details of 414, but I suppose there's merit in measuring the T/S parameters. In any case, they're mighty nice how they perform.

There are four rolls in the accordian surround. I've never seen that before, I don't believe. 3012LF has three, and HO, two, as I recall....

                Heads up ;)
Madisonud is blowing out Aura drivers, the NS12 is ~$100, I've heard on a couple occasions now that it is good enough to use in a two-way design. Might make a true full range two-way possible

Free support for loudspeaker projects, sourcing OEM speaker building supplies, and passive crossover design. We sell raw speaker drivers (tweeters, woofers, subwoofer, midrange drivers, full range drivers), speaker kits, amplifiers, capacitors, resistors, and inductors.

It's got a 10dB spike at 2K. The "standard" XO crosses at ~1600. I've rejected drivers that aren't flat out past 3K.

Greetings! Humble question for the Econowavers.

I have a couple Deltalite II 2512's, Selenium Ti220 drivers and the 8" JBL waveguides sitting around here collecting dust. (Six 2512's, three selenium drivers and three JBL waveguides total.) Scanning around the various Ewave thread's on the net, I don't see this combination of driver's put together as a system. Quite possible that I may have missed it though.

Would these drivers work together and what crossover would be best? I have wood and MDF, L-pad's. and various crossover parts here so it would mean a couple bucks to get a pair of these up and running.

                        Vlad,

I think that would be a unique combination but it should be good to go. Do the the JBL 8x8's have a 90x90 pattern? It should be stamped on the waveguides (at it is on my JBL 6x6's). Keep in mind the 90 degree vertical pattern may (will?) have some issues that the 6x12 waveguides (40/50 x 90 degree pattern) don't. Is it a big deal? I don't know...but it is a difference. Given the cost of the 6x12's, swapping them out is something to think about.

Without doing any modeling or measuring, I think a good place to start would be the LE14 variant of the "standard" eWave crossover.

This is my suggestion because it is what I used with the Deltalite 2510 and Kappalite 3015 with the D220Ti and Pyle 6x12 waveguides. It measures pretty flat and I'm guessing the 2512 would fall right into place. If nothing else, it is a place to start with the measuring and the modeling since I have no clue how the 8x8 behaves compared to the 6x12 waveguide.

Actually the JBL 8" WG's are 90v x 50h. Come to think of it, I read somewhere that they only get down to 2500hz so may not be the best option with the 2512. I already have a Pyle 12x6 WG here as well so I think I'll order another.

Good stuff. Thanks for the reply.

                          • Hmmm... About that JBL 8" Waveguide.

On the other hand, bought a pair of Pioneer B20 fullrange drivers to mess with here. (These and the little Dayton neo tweeters sound great.) Threw together some horns (Half Chang) and I must say these are amazing drivers for $19.

Did some mods to the Pioneers and after every one, they got even better. (Braced the baskets, damar on the cones, cut back the whizzer slightly, removed the dustcap, and have been trying various home made phase plugs.)

Now I am wondering how they would work with the JBL 8" WG! Some wood surgery may be in order here.

Sorry for the off topic... thinking out loud. I have got to get a measuring setup!

Are you suggesting that you have a suitable driver that has no cone breakup till after 3k? I'd like to see it if so.

I probably over-stated some. The Aurasound FR curve looks pretty much like the Dayton DC300, which I have used in an Ewave and is surprisingly good. This with the original standard XO rather than the new one that was more optimized for the DC300 in the Dayton Trap Cabs.

It's kind of ironic that the EWave started as a modular approach to repurpose old cabs and woofers for good sound at smallish dollars. Looking at where we are at now seems to prove Voltaire right: "the better is the enemy of the good". "Course that's pretty much the Hi-Fi story.
