Closed-box cab resonance peak (Fc) is 80 Hz.

You're gonna have to wait for the PCD files, but those will not show below 200 Hz. Ported, look at the factory spec for AC16....

So I know this has brought up a million times before, the de250 and the 220ti paired with the 152i waveguide.


Is there an audible difference between the two? They both seem to measure the same looking at the FR graphs but the De250 uses a Polyimide where the 220ti uses a metal diaphram(titanium). I have a selenium 1425 setup with my speakers and some of the highs can be absolutely brutal on the ears (laser shots in star wars the glass breaking at the end of order of the phoenix), it makes me wince a little bit and displeases the better half. The speakers we had before this were some dayton silk domes.


So am I noticing something that is prevalent with metal CD's or just noticing new effects that the silkies couldn't represent?

Our better halves hear this stuff more than we do, but DE250 is smoother than the titanium D220Ti, yes....

Do you plan to test the B&C vs. the 226J in the standard 2-way version as well?

The woofers, they can't sell you direct, so you have to go through a JBL Pro dealer or authorized JBL service center for those. If you do that, you may as well order the waveguides through them, as well.

Yes, when the B&C woofers get here, I'll run them 2-way, as well....

Also, I know you use CLIO but do you have any experience with HolmImpulse? I decided to try it out since it can export the necessary format for PCD as well as Hypex DSP amps. I spent a few hours this weekend and could not get a reliable/usable measurement of my two XD120 test boxes. It seems I am getting some sort of feedback that is throwing off the "auto detect gating". I have tried all the different detect modes and while some produce a different response, none of them look right.

Purchases through JBL Pro Parts are at full-bore MSRP, but we're talking $6 apiece for these nice 6" square waveguides. Have the correct part numbers from the Tech Sheets on hand to minimize hassles. Dave and Carla at the other end of that phone number are friends of EconoWave and will do what is necessary to get you the parts you need. Tell them it's for that, as they are well familiar with our gig here. They get it, and have sold literally hundreds of waveguides direct to E-Wavers over the past several years.

Your JBL Pro dealer or JBL Authorized Service Center may give you a bit of a discount if you ask, especially if you do other business with them. Asking for a discount on a $12 pair of waveguides is not gonna get you good service for just those, however, which is why I suggest going direct for that. As woofers go, these are fairly expensive at $80 apiece MSRP, but they're not your ordinary buyout fare, either, as you can see in the specs, so some nominal discount may be in order.

Know that there will be some delay ordering through the dealer or service center; they'll be doing the same, ordering from JBL Pro Parts and having the items shipped to them instead of you. That means there's a service involved in doing this, a service that falls outside their typical course of business with JBL, and they deserve due compensation plus shipping for that, in my view:

Is there any reason why a dual woofer setup hasn't been used like some of the JBL screen arrays?

Its a 3db advantage most of the time adding a second woofer and yeah the cab size doubles but some people are putting these behind screens so there really isn't an issue because we can just go vertical. Plus we get a little bit more extension.

Yes, good reason, actually -- if both woofers are playing through the midrange, they interfere with each other, and it is difficult if not impossible (other than D'Appolito MTM) to control how they interact with the waveguide and define a forward axis and lobe. There are other means of accomplishing similar performance advantages without generating such issues, but there's clearly more to it than simply running multiple woofers in parallel.

JBL's approach has traditionally been "2.5" mode where SQ matters, primarily emphasizing the benefit of extending the LF capabilities of higher-efficiency woofers, but they have recently applied their Forward Array Technology (FAT™) to further enhancing performance. We are investigating that in a couple of the Mini E-Wave builds here incorporating dual woofers, TWW....

Hiya,

Ive been loosely following the EW threads for awhile and am getting ready to build soon. I had planned using my Altec 414Zs in the deluxe configuration which uses the DE250 and QSC HPR 152. Now it appears that the QSC is no longer available. So which of all the others would be the best one to use? The cabinets will be built so size isnt a concern. They will be used in a medium to smaller listening space though.
