Re: CAST YOUR VOTE: Phase plugs AL or Brass

Usher has a black cone with AL phase plug. I think it looks quite nice. But I would vote for Brass just as a differentiator.

My choice is light black if it is not too black, otherwise a medium black tending to antique black.

      Or - Who's on first?
Seriously though... if it's anodized black, who cares if it's aluminum or brass?

Brass is nowhere near as good a thermal conductor as aluminum. Prettier, yes, but so is copper which wins on all counts except price.

The phase plug will not be black, only the cone and frame.

Heck, at least no one has said gold-pressed latinum yet. I wouldn't mind a "black chrome" though.

Yeah, black chrome is an excellent idea, it would look really slick!
If it's a plug of pure brass, won't it add to the cost considerably?

Sorry, but that Usher is one ugly duckling, regardless how well it sings.

Yes, I can see your point, especially regarding the cone material, and what appears to be irregularities in the treatment of the paper.

But I like the look of phase plugs on mid-woofers in general, e.g. the whole Dayton RS line. And the silver-toned plug on the Usher with the black cone is a nice contrast IMO.

Brass would provide a nice contrasting look as well...

                          Polished and clear coated AL.

The Usher on the previous page looks cheap with a dull finish.

As a business, they'll probably run into some engineering or materials hiccup that means the only feasible option would Andy's bright green phase plug. But no matter what happens, I give Rich serious thumbs-up for asking us!

                              Black anodized.

Voted aluminum... as long as it's polished!

Still like the look of the copper though.
