  • OT: Setting up a web page

Since this is another area I am clueless in I am looking for advice on getting started.
I want to be able to post job pics before/after. Speaker building section and my MDF test results. My son said I need a host and if I can't read code, I can't, I need a program to put a web site together? any and all advice would be appreciated.
My son is able to build a site for me, but I would like to be able to update it on my own.
Free and cheap are at the top of my list.
I hope this isn't like posting " I want to build a set of speakers what do I need to know".
    Thanks Dave

It is kind of like asking "I have an armful of drivers I ordered willy-nilly and this is my idea for a speaker".

I use godaddy.com and Microsoft Frontpage. Godaddy has a simple file uploader on their site, you can also use any old FTP software.
Don't listen to me - I have not sold any $150,000 speakers.

Might want to try "Google Sites". Its free and has a built in editor. Somewhat limited, but easy to use and FREE.
I'm working on building a site myself, so I should learn a bit about it soon.

Re: OT: Setting up a web page

Here is is, fast and easy...

Go to a host. I use fastnext.com..$75 a year for the domain name and the host.

Use Mictrosoft Publisher. It is part of MS office and you probably alfready have it.

Then when you get it the way you like it you click file then publish to web. Hit the drop down arrow and select FTP. Then add the ftp of your site. ftp.yourdomainname.com (or .net or whatever)

            Done...:D:D:D:D:D

My son suggested Dreamweaver from Adobe. That's when I decided I was in over my head and posted here. I will check out the link you posted thanks.

Re: OT: Setting up a web page

Dreamweaver is nice Dave, but if you just want a simple page to showcase pictures and projects, MS Office is quite capable and it looks like you already have it on your PC. Absolutely no need to spend money on additional software, especially professional design software which runs in the hundreds of dollars.

Another alternative is to start a "blog". This requires no additional software beyond what you already use (Browser, some sort of basic photo manipulation software).
Don't listen to me - I have not sold any $150,000 speakers.

I opened Publication2, clicked on a template, it loads the templete. My company name is already filled in. How on earth did it know my company name!

                            Magic....

I used photoshop CS4 to do mine... Dreamweaver is probably better, but since I already had an $800 program, I figured, I would make it work...
