Man I have been so busy working on remodeling the house that I haven't touched my speakers in about 2 months. I just need to install the ports, cut the baffle, and mount the drivers and they will be ready for testing and crossover work.

They aren't anything special. Duel RS 180's on the bottom end. An open back fountek FW 146 as the mid-range and the Dayton Planar up top. The boxes are a constrained layer design that is 4 layers thick so I am looking forward to seeing how they sound.

I just need to find some time to get the work done. Maybe this week end.

    Re: new project underway

    Doug,

I would second the North Creeks. I used them with a pair of Scan Speak Revelator 5 inchers at DIY IA way back in '05 or '06. Most of the guys there thought that the North's were Scans. They are an outstanding tweeter for the money! $36/pair is tough to beat. I have 3 or 4 pairs on hand at all times. Only downside is that North Creek will discontinue them in the very near future (I was hoping PE would pick them up, but I doubt that will happen)

It's Purple heart. Rereading one of me earlier posts I see why there is a little confusion. Sorry about that.

Did you buy a truckload of that same cork that you used on the exteriors of your HT speakers? Those should be some seriously dead cabinets!!

I am meeting up with jakeb on Friday to pick up a pair of the NorthCreek tweeters, but I think he has the other pair still up for sale. Those should work well and not break the bank.
The cork on my HT speakers is 1/4" and comes in 1 foot square sheets. The stuff for the inside of the speaker is 1/8" and comes in rolls. I got it at Ace hardware. It was rather expensive but I always buy local when I can. I will keep those tweeters in mind if the planars don't make the grade.

I like that idea alot but I checked with my wallet and he was not as excited. I am going to take a listen to the Dayton planar's before I make a decision.

Thanks. Is his work on that on line?

A local pub has some EV subwoofers that are in this type of configuration. Very nice sound in this pub, at least when someone with ears is running the mixer. ;)

It was based upon Roy Allison's studies. This cabinet shape puts the woofer closer to two boundary wall surfaces, the floor and back wall. Concepually, this can help to fill out the dips in the low end response and generally make the natural room boundary reinforced roll off less severe. He had a 3way back in the 80's that had the woofer mounted this way.

I will. I was going to just model up something quick with a cap and a coil in PCD at about 3K and give a listen. Maybe even this weekend.
