Hello, I'm thinking about building a pair of bookshelf speakers with a 5.25" Woofer. What do you guys think? It's a ported box with a 1.75" port. Height- 15" Width- 9.5" Depth- 10"

i looked at that 5.25 driver are you thinking sealed or ported? if your looking ported you can get roughly the same F3 from the ND105-4 driver, with a much smaller box.

I'm thinking ported. So you are saying I can get around the same bass with the 4" version?

i was just pointing out the F3 would be roughly the same between the two. the ND105-4 needs a .48 cuft box. the one your looking at needs if i recall right a 1.6cu ft box, that is ported. the F3 for both is just under 30hz, the ND105-04 was 27.9hz and the ND140-8 was 28.6hz(or around there). to roll off might be a bit different but i pay much attention when looking in winisd when i was comparing them.

i was just offering something that would be much smaller. Offer similar performance. though i leave the performance and how they sound to those that have used them. im just offering what looks better to me for a ported 2way.

you might also want to check out paul carmody's "overnight sensations"... they use the ND20 tweeter and the B4N as the mid/woofer. i've built two pairs as gifts, you can make them for $65-80 a pair, and they sound great. you won't get an F3 of 30hz, but they get down into the 40s, and they're about 6x9x8". they're a great first build, and the copper-colored woofer gives it a unique look.

Thanks, this is my first build alone. But my father and I built a 5.0 Set, 3-way towers, 2-way center and surrounds. The B4N looks sweet!

i swore i saw some projects using it but now after looking it looks like some others. there are some in the project show case using the B4N or other variation driver. just from looking at the predicted F3 of on project this might be what your after.

If I buy a crossover from Dayton, instead of building one, will there be loss in audio quality?

OMG, don't even think about that!!!:eek:

Build the crossover that Paul designed, and specifies, or 1. they're not the Overnight Sensations; and 2. They'll sound like dog poo.

Please, please, if you don't listen to another comment, listen to this one...

DON'T USE THE PREBUILT CROSSOVER!!!!

WWWJD's crossover is impressive.

Crossovers are not too bad. If you can follow a schematic and solder you should be fine.

I've used both the M4n/M5n (and the siblings M3n and M8n).

The M5 either a or n is capable of a lot of good sound.
