  • Zinsser SealCoat is awesome.

After trying several different ways and suggestions to seal MDF. I decided to try Zinssers SealCoat. I couldn't find it at the local big box stores but did locate it at a Woodcraft store. Very easy to apply, dries fast and sands easy. I couldn't ask for anything more.

The real test is how the seams look in a few months.

    Are you painting them?

Yes, I'm painting. We we see how the seams look after time. What I like is how well the MDF takes primer after sealing.

I recently used Zinsser BIN shellac to seal some MDF for a non audio project and was pleasantly surprised how well it sealed the MDF in one coat.

Our Lowes carries it as does Menards.

I'm not overly concerned with the seams. Body filler has worked well for that so far. My goal was to eliminate the sponge effect of the MDF. Tritrix took way too many coats of primer to cover. The SealCoat cuts down on prep time. I suppose any wax free shellac will do the same.
