to enjoy the benifits of the outboard caps, the onboard caps must be removed? not to confident about melting solder on the board.

just get some braid, or a solder sucker. desoldering is arguably easier than soldering. just be sure not to hold the iron on the board too long or you'll burn and/or lift the pad.

dont do the cap mod. do it with the onboard caps and just the pot. then play it for at least a week or two. then if you want do the cap mod. this is your first or second diy amp go slow at first to build confidence. you know training wheels on a bike or your dad running along side holding the bike steady.

i agree, when i did the dta2 i had to solder the leads on and all i had was pistol grip soldering iron with the tip the size of a pencil. now i have the little one that was on sale for 12 bux. im going to set every thing up tomorow and ill draw what i think the wiring should be and present it for approval. pics

1/2"mdf bottom 1/2" walnut top and sides, 1/8 hardboard rear, 1/8"x 4"aluminum front plate.

Looking good Arlis, Try to keep your input and pot wires as short as possible so they don't pick up noise. I think you'll like the sound of this board.

thanks. it was nerve wrecking to turn in on. works fine.
my bass problem cleared right up. clean come to mind. kick drum sounds like aaaaaaa kick drum. clipping was the problem, good call. in retospect, i wish i would have taken phils advice and used two mono pots. for testing one speaker it would have been best. cranked er up to 90 db with forplay featuring larry carlton, wow.

Arlis are you using a pre-amp with this board? What setting are your gain switches at? I'll be modding my sure boards shortly and install (2) in a case for a (4) channel amp for bi-amping. I also have a 4*100 sure board to play with as well. These boards are pretty good for the money.

no preamp at this time. my immediant goal is for use in voicing my 3-way. mtww. the [email protected] was not near enough power. it seems i had a serious clipping problem. i do however have a beriger eq. when i boost or lower any range, it hurts the sq. so, maybe im getting close. i will take a week off work soon, and will build the other enclosure which i will document.
so much thanks to all who helped make this happen. sniff;)

the switch that i installed was not working so i figured i hooked somthing up wrong. using a three prong rcepticel from an old power supply. in the triagle should'nt the top be the ground? one of the others through the switch? the hot and neutral to the other twoo. on the power suppy, hot and neutral to terminals reght and middle, L and N, ground to ground?

Arlis, you may want to consider turning your power supply around so the fan is towards the front, just a thought. It might make it easier to wire. On your IEC jack the top is ground, neutral looks correct and I don't think you need that barrier strip. Depending on the switch you have (spst) take your ground to power supply, neutral to power supply then load to switch then load from switch to your power supply. This all depends on your switch. Make sure its for 120v ac.

it is 120ac. i tried several different configurations on the switch to no avail. the dc is tuned to exactly 32vdc. but when i turned it on, from the power strip on the floor, the chip went up in smoke. i knew i should have put a fuse in line, i just did'nt know what value. ill try to get sure to send a new one. if not, ill buy another.:(

at 32 volts, what would be a good fuse to put between the amp and power suppy? 4amp? slow blow?

I don't think you want a slow blow, that has a delay mechanism in it to allow a higher current or surge for a short time. Maybe a 4 amp standard would be ok. Google DC fuse ratings and see what you come up with.
