  • Crown XTI 1000 Amplifier

Is anybody familiar with this amp? I’m thinking about using it to power two RSS315HF-4 subs. It appears to me that it would be a good choice with the DSP features. Is there any way to make this be “Auto-on”?

These amps have demonstrated very poor power output at low frequencies in bench tests.. well below the rated specs.

Like Paul said, 3rd party testing* showed poor performance in the Xti1000. It could have been that particular unit, but I would steer clear of the Xti series. I would suggest a Behringer EP2500 and a Behringer DCX2496, or if you really want a Crown try the XS or CE series plus the DCX2496.

P.S. They just tested one of the new Peavey IPR series amps with good results if you really want a lightweight amplifier.

        Re: Crown XTI 1000 Amplifier

I have now purchased a Behringer EP2500 amp for my 2 future subs and I am looking at a Behringer DEQ1024 Equalizer/Feedback/Processor. In researching these processors I am finding that unless you have a whole pile of them you can’t process a 5.1 setup. Also, it may not be possible anyway depending on the AV Receiver you have. So to use this DEQ1024 for my sub I will only be utilizing a very small portion of it’s capabilities. Is my thinking correct on this? If not, can someone explain how this is setup.

This has been discussed to some extent before. The test that embarrassed the XTi1000 was low frequency output into 4 ohms. Output dropped to way below the rated power. Above the deep bass it performed fine. It also appears to perform well with 8 ohm loads, all the way down. Other reports have it that the XTi2000 or higher models don't have this issue and could be used for subwoofer duty.

The price on the XTi series is attractive, especially if you use the Google shopping search. Their software interface (Band Manager) is very slick. It could be a good alternative to using the DCX2496 and separate amps, for an active system.
