Not necessarily. Seth is good about accommodating upgrades. If you want to own the amplifier and enjoy it until the new stuff comes out, by all means take the plunge.

Class D can sound better than AB

If you are willing to run a more open output filter, Class D can sound very transparent with incredible dynamics. Don't confuse the TK2050 chip set with a 12v, 12watt T amp. With a 32v supply the Sure 2X100 makes enough power for real speakers and with higher quality input caps and output coils installed, the sonics are incredible. My AB amps have been shelved.

I finished off the power supply board in my Tripath/Apogee test amplifier, and I'm ready to compare power supply options. If you read the Apogee app note AN-01, you will see why a non-regulated linear supply is unsuitable for these class D amps. In order to get around the problem of the AM sidebands due to power supply ripple, you can use extra capacitance, a linear regulator, or a regulated high speed switching power supply. I've got a power supply board that has three relays for switching in a 60000uF capacitor bank and a low-dropout linear regulator, and you can switch between a Meanwell 48v switcher or an unregulated linear supply as the source. You can switch back and forth with the touch of a button on an IR remote control. I'll set this up with some good speakers and see what I find...

Very interesting remote A B testing. We will also be interested to know the results of your Class D, TK2050, 3886 chip amp comparisons.

I was using regulators before the tank caps in my power supplies but had to jump them out of the circuit when trying the Sure 2X100 amp modules as they were entering protection on start up and never would output greater than 6v. My linear supply has 20,000 uf of filter caps per leg but can't even come close to the dynamics and transparency of the MeanWell SMPS into the Sure which only has 2000 uf on board.

this is the power supply they carry for it. if this works, the amp not the power supply.

the power supply is from mean well it should work. your price is 40 the amp 18 the power supply that is 56 bucks! Pretty good for price. still need a case

Sure 2X100 32v feedback resistors

I sprung for the extra money to get the 350 watt 36v supply and use it turned down to 32v which is the optimum voltage for the feed back resistors that Sure has fitted and is also about the upper limit for voltage vs. heat dissipation of the output chips to get decent reliability.

Calling the amp 2X100 is stretching it as that is 10% distortion into 4 ohms. It is more accurately described as 2X35/ 8 ohms, 2X70/ 4 ohms at 30v, .01%. About the same as a gainclone at + and - 30v but it sounds much more powerful than it's specs, unlike the gainclone. Explosive dynamics like I have never heard. The 2050 amp will have less power at 24v but I did try it with 2 car batteries and the sonics are still great even if you can occasionally hear a little strain creeping in on loud peaks. That 24v supply is really cheap and small if that is the main consideration though.

my in-progress 3-way sounds very good with my little 15 watts per channel dayton kit. i suspect they would sound real good with this. do the amp and power supply need to be in seperate box or just plenty of ventalation?

A 50 watt power supply is way too small for a 200 watt amp. Go for the 350 watt supply.

it has voltage adjustment you can turn it down to 32v.
