Re: on Sale - $55/pr (drivers & XO)
So far they are still bare MDF, but here is a pic none the less. The Pico Neo is the ones using the RS28 boxes as stands. The boxes are 3/4" MDF at 6/9/10.5" w/d/h which yields a 5 liter (.175 ft2) internal volume. The port is 1" PVC 4.5" tuning the box to 48Hz and giving an F3 of 41Hz. Absolutely fantastic for near-field without a sub . . . I'm very happy with these as computer speakers . . . particularly when you want good bass without the risk of waking up the wife and kids . . . something I find myself needing more often than not.
After break in, I was noticing a bit (read very slight) of a dip between 80Hz and 55 Hz so I went in search of TS specs measured after break in (I had previously used the PE spec sheet) and came across the Murphy Corner Line Array project where they have tested this driver extensively. After loading up these specs I now see a model which almost exactly follows what I was hearing (which I am also attaching along with the pic). With the new paramaters, I am playing around with modeling in a smaller box and higher turning giving me some sudo BSC and a roll off which should blend well with room gain, con being that they loose about 10Hz of their current bottom end. Since making this change makes these no longer Chris's Pico Neo I don't want to go into any further detail here and will start my own thread once boxes are built and I can do some in room testing.
The ones in front are Wolf's PC alignment . . . my first stab at this full range driver. These are in a 1 liter box with the driver in series with a 500uF CAP to help with "small box peak" and extending the low end a bit. By my standards, these require a sub. They play fairly level down to around 70Hz where they fall off very fast. Using the "ear" test, id but F6 at about 65Hz with nothing audible below 60Hz. An excellent Bose Killer if used on wall (to compensate the lack of BSC) with a sub crossed at 80Hz.
For those who notice every detail in pictures, the XOs on the desk are for a pair of the Microbe RS which uses the RS125S-8 and RS28A-4 (Hence the boxes used as stands). I really love small speakers, can you tell?
