From Post #18 by Chris Roemer in this thread ...

    My cabinet choice: 28"h x 6"w x 9.5"d. 0.55 cf
A 2"d x 7" long rear vent centered 10" up from the bottom tunes this box to 39 Hz yielding an F3 of 38. I'd mount the upper woofer's center 4" down from the box top. This puts the tweeter at about 21", so theese should sound best on about 12" high stands.
Part numbers that are backordered are:

    4 Ohm 5W Resistor Part Number: 015-4
    20 Ohm 10W Resistor Part Number: 016-20

Was he suggesting that the floorstanding speakers themselves should be on 12" high stands as well?

I imagine if the upper woofer's center is 4" down from the box top at 24", and the tweeter is at 21", then the bottom woofer's center is at 18"?

The parts list I was looking at was back from post 96 on page 5.

Thanks. That solves one of my problems.

What about part 016-20 for the 20ohm 10W resistor?

016-20 shows in stock for me, but if it isn't you could use 004-20. Costs a bit more but not much. http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...tnumber=004-20

No. The purpose of the stands is to get the tweeter at the same height as your ear.

          I think so, yes.

It does show in stock, but if you add it to your cart it shows backordered. At least it did for me.

            Thanks!

Can anyone point me to the diagrams I need to follow to wire these up?

You can always build a 12" taller tower with a false bottom to keep you volume correct. Add some mass, mount your crossover in the bottom compartment, whatever.

As for the resistor, you're just looking for the same specs. Radioshack, etc.

I got the holes routed for the drivers and the boxes glued up except for the face. I also cut some eggcrate foam I had and some carpet padding to fit in the box. I am using an 1-1/2" PVC plumbing pipe as the port. The interior dimension is actually 1-9/16" but I do not know what length to cut it to, It is cut to 8" right now. Once I know what length I will glue it into the recess I routed out and the trim it flush with the pipe and then use a round over bit to ease the port opening. I also used an 1/8" round over bit to ease the inside edge of the PVC pipe.

Any suggestions would be great. This is my first from scratch speaker build.

Trust me, I wouldn't be here if I hadn't already found the same parts on radioshack, ebay, a variety of random electronics stores online, fry's electronics, you name it. I searched for a good 45 minutes before giving up and posting here, and with as little electric knowledge as I have, I wouldn't know what could be used to improvise.

These 3 parts aren't a "horrible" match, but if you can, I'd change them:

                          2.2 ohm 10w resistor - 2.0 ohm is better
                          2.0mH #18 coil - a 2.0mH "I-core" is better (with the steel core)
                          5.1uF poly cap - a 5.6uF poly is better

A 2"d x 7" long rear vent centered 10" up from the bottom tunes this box to 39 Hz yielding an F3 of 38. I'd mount the upper woofer's center 4" down from the box top. This puts the tweeter at about 21", so theese should sound best on about 12" high stands.
I have a concern here. I plugged these numbers into WinISD and a .55 cubic foot box tuned to 39 hz requires a 2"D x 8.46" port length. Any idea why that is so? A 7.09" port length tunes to 42hz...
